I have been racking my brains trying to think of a good, fast, online way of setting up a petition.

The idea I have is simple and I would be grateful for your input. Basically I would set up a website dedicated to trying to get the reversing the decision to return and sell the horses. I would contain the latest releases from the charities etc and a page with an online form. The online form would have a standard wording plus space for people to put their full name and address. I would basically collect the emails and then zip them up and send them to the Judge, MP, RSPCA or whoever we decide is the best person to receive them.

Comments please!
 
There has been talk of a petition being set up by the charities concerned......

I know but they have not done it yet. I am getting emails from people keen to do something now. It seems a good idea to strike while the irons hot. I'm sure that people will be happy to sign two petitons if the charities ever get round to it.
 
it would be well worth it, you would be containing it all, if you know what i mean, 1 place for the press to advertise etc where people can go and fill in there details and find the information they want, go for it.

Hi - I think it is a great idea. At least we can be doing something positive instead of feeling helpless. The fact that this case has generated so much public interest and outcry not to mention many thousands of pounds in donations needs to be brought to the attention of the Court.

I'm all for it!
 
Like Equineonline I have my members queuing up to do something and frustrated that 'actions' to stop the decision are not happening. On behalf of my members I have approached the ILPH and told them, if required (because say, the judgment is not reversed) and on their say so - we will begin to fund raise with the aim to purchase the horses, ponies and donkey so they can be left at their respective charities to continue their rehabilitation and be re homed by them.

This is their response.

"The International League for the Protection of horses (ILPH) is horrified at the decision made at Oxford Magistrates Court last week with regards to the return and sale of Jamie Gray's horses. We have had many calls and emails to ask what people can do to help. At the moment we are waiting for confirmation from the RSPCA as to what they are able to do legally and as soon as an announcment has been made we will be in a better position to be able to advise people how they can help."

The charities know there is a tide of people wanting to help and the pressure is on the RSPCA to sort out the legalities. As soon as the charities can say what they need us to do and what will be the most beneficial course of action to take to help the animals and the charities we will act. If anyone wants to be kept up to date please register with my site (it is free) and you will get our news letters with any development information. good for you eo, sitting on butts dosnt achive anything, please let us know when its up and running and i will put the details all over the place.

im guessing some people may be against you doing it, but in my opinion you have nothing to lose. good for you for taking the time and doing it.

Sorry if I gave the impression no one should do anything in the meantime. I think what you are doing is great. As soon as I knew what you set up on face book I circulated the information.

This situation needs to be looked at and worked on all fronts and we are all working and wanting to do everything we can. Unfortunately sorting out the legalities is relevant and keeping in touch with the situation can only help.

I will also help to circulate your information.
 
Don't worry you didn't give any bad impression :-) Of course the charities have to follow procedure but that is valuable time lost for them that we can do something with. My plan is to collect peoples 'petitions' then hand them over to the relevant charities, MP's etc to do with as they see fit. It's a head start at least.
 
Well done for tackling this mess so positively.
What about also approaching well-known figures in the horses world, e.g. William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell, the Whittakers etc.
to add their voices to this campaign. Also might an appeal to say, the Maktoums and other big racehorse owners, with all their money, be worth considering.
 
First can i just say this is not a reply to anyone in particular.

Everyone wants to do something about this situation we have all got ideas but we need co-ordination , there are a few people here that CAN organise any help we can all give to the charities/ horses.
May i suggest that Equineonline, Voicesforhorses and Operation Esther Group get their heads together on this so we can be organised therefore giveing us more clout, time is of the essence here.
We will all be behind you whatever you decide to do im sure.
 
Equine Online and Operation Esther are already together (as of an hour ago). Will be inviting Voicesforhorses next job. I'm sure she'll be in! Just got a little website to build first...

If it is any use to you my website has the facility to collect names emails - what ever you want. I can create a purpose built petition/campaign for you and it will be ready by the end of the day. I can put a banner on the home page and direct traffic to the petition - your site and OE if required. Have a look at the fight for change petition. This kind of thing may not be what you want but the offer is there.

Well that's my opinion too. I have had 3rd party word though that the charities do not want me/anyone to start a petiton (or website) as they are going to be doing their own. My issue with that is WHEN? Maybe I am naive but I really don't see the harm in collecting details then passing them onto the charities.

Anyway I will be holding off the petiton for a couple of days to give them a chance. The website will be going live though later today or tomorrow. Just to clarify that it is currently a single venture from Equine Online though I am sure that other offers of help still stand.
 
I think your idea is very good. To raise public awareness of something you believe in, and offer people a chance to put their name to such things, can only be a positive step for those concerned.

How odd. 3rd party word? If I was you, and you wish to get your petition off the ground and then to link alongside any of these charities, then I would contact the charities directly; gathering information from "the horses mouth" is always more accurate.
 
Agree with Tia, what you want to do is brilliant so perhaps you should check with the charities yourself to make sure it is true that they don't want you to do this, it seems rather strange given that you could do it so quickly, I would have thought time was of the essence.
 
I've held off from emailing the charities as I figured they would bombarded with enough emails from willing helpers. Maybe when they see the website and Facebook site (800 members already in 48hrs) they will find the time to add me to their contact list.
 
You can email the charities communications departments, tell them what you are doing and ask them to put you on their mailing list. Failing that you can get their press releases from their website.

In the meantime each welfare organizations involved has legal teams and from my communications with the respective charities they are working round the clock for solutions. They want to be able to tell the public what they can do to help and will do as soon as the most suitable course of action is identified. The people behind the scenes at the charities are just as devastated as we all are.

Sorry not had a chance to answer your pm or read your post until now. Will pass on the site info - great job! Between us all, not least a passionate caring equestrian community making their feeling heard the relevant people should be starting to feel the pressure building.
 
I want to sign a petition. Have just also, on the advice of the Horse Trust, written to my MP and to the Amersham MP Cheryl Gillan and I have also sent a letter to Lord Rooker. But I thought Equine on Line were doing a petition. Would it be possible for EquinOnLine and Voices for Horses to liaise and organise a co-ordinated way of responding and a joint petition?

An on-line petition has now been set up in order that members of the public may add their support to the request that the Court ruling last week in Oxford be overturned and the horses, ponies and donkeys be left with the welfare agencies and not either returned to the family or be sold at public auction until after the 12 counts of animal cruelty have been dealt with at trial.
