Amersham horses

If the Amersham horses are sent to mart would it not be possible for the public as a whole to buy back the animals on behalf of the charities.The charities have said that they would care for these animals. As before members of the public donated money, could we all do this again. There would have to be another campaign to do this.Like the baby donkey campaign. Yes there will be kind hearted people who would go to the sale and rescue one or two but there will be some which don't. I can't believe the British justice system at the moment. This judge has given a precedent for any one to neglect and be cruel to animals and get away with it. Why bother then giving the RSPCA additional powers if they can't use them. Hypocrisy. Would people think about this idea and look at a campaign fund which could be collected by the charities to buy back the horses. Only downer on this is that Mr Grey will get the profits, but the horses will be safe until he gets his next batch!

Unfortunately it would cost thousands to buy back 80+ horses and you can guarrantee that something would happen to inflate their prices... I think the whole point of everyone objecting to the judges decision is that we can't believe the law offers animals such as these so little protection. It shouldn't be down to people on HHO to raise funds to buy thses horses out of cruelty and an almost certain death - they should be protected by the British Justice system.

Well said Panda! Isn't it time to look past the rose coloured glasses and get in the real world!!! How many of us can afford to buy horses that will already be at overinflated prices (sorry if this sounds harsh) but we need to look at the bigger picture here and put all our energy into stopping this ruling going ahead!

What also concerns me is if the British public start buying horses to protect them from the Jamie Grays of the world, surely we are just feeding the trade in neglected and abused horses? Far better to use the animal protection legislation to curb this type of animal abuse once and for all without putting more money into the pockets of the scumbags who think it is acceptable to ill treat animals to their financial advantage.

According to H&H yesterday the proceeds from the auction of the horses will go otwards the RSPCA costs of £153000 and not directly to JG

(obviously unless the proceeds exceed the RSPCA costs and then the residue would goto JG and his cohorts

hopefully the district judge will change his ruling

And again Well said! and very true...... the animal welfare bill was updated for a purpose..... surely we would be better ensuring this DOES work to protect the animals concerend!

We need to make sure this ruling is overturned, JG is prosecuted, and steps are taken to make sure this doesn't happen again.

While it would be fantastic to rescue every abused and neglected animal, it simply isn't possible, and our efforts are best focussed on tring to get the laws strengthened and the punishments toughened.

If this ruling goes ahead and JG isn't prosecuted, it makes a joke out of our animal welfare laws and sets a dangerous precedent for others to do the same and get away with it.

We've already made a difference, let's keep at it!
