Hi,

I am sick to death of various makes of fly rugs slipping over to one side, pulling back at the shoulders and the material folding back at the front leaving the velcro and clips/straps rubbing my poor mares chest all day. The only rugs that seem to fit her are Amigos so I thought I would get some opinions here before I buy and I ve always liked the look of this (Aussie) rug.

Does anyone use these and find they keep them cool even on super hot days like the ones we are having? Thanks!

I've got a couple and love them, horses stay cool. However the last one I replaced with the same size came up very small so something to bear in mind

Love love love them! and I really am not a fan of fly rugs at all having found they slip or horses get really hot! but this year with flys and heat being so bad I did a bit of research and bought one! my horse is cool as a cucumber and yesterday I just put it in my washing machine and came out like new!!

I wouldn't be without mine at all! I never use fly spray as mine wear these most off the time through the summer! They don't rub and keep them cool when it's hot - mine have never sweated even in this heatwave. I wouldn't be without one now.

Interesting. I discounted them as I thought they were similar fabric to my sweet itch type rugs which my horses die In during hot weather. Is this not the case?

A couple of people at my yard use them but I am never there at the same time to quiz them on it. They are a super light material they seem lovely

I’ve got one but I only really use it if it look like it’s going to rain a fair bit. It has no belly coverage though so he got bitten a lot there but it is a nice rug other than that and seems nice a cool.

He wears an older Amigo Bug buster vamoose most of the time which is pretty cool and has belly coverage.

I don’t like the new 3 in 1 vamoose with the disc fastening. I have one to send back.

My ISH gets hot and has been out in the day in these temperatures always cool under rug they are breathable.

No they were originally designed for horses in Australia and to be worn all of the time so they are designed not to make them sweat :)

Thanks for posting this, Im actually a bit gutted as one in my size came up cheap and I ummmed and ahhhhed as I too wondered if they were made of thick sweet itch rug type material, the next minute it had sold. Off to google now :)

These would be perfect - if only they had a belly flap !!! Keeps him cool but too many bites so had to abandon.

No sorry (7'). I was so happy with it and will prob use again when the flies have gone. But have had to resort to heavy sweet itch and only turnout overnight. He is so allergic to bites.

Thanks for replying :) , this weather is getting a bit much now, Im feeling sorry for them in this heat and the awful flies. We seem to be plagued with horseflies atm.

if you want to sell it, one of ours is 7 foot...;) although I dont think bank account would allow it!! didnt think to shop around too much, just went for one with quickest delivery. Got it for £70 which didnt seem a bad price. typical as when i was looking in winter, they were about £50...

I'm a real fan too! I've had 4 in total for my 2 horses as they live in them bar a few hours in the stable. They work with my itchy boy and the one that hates horseflies, don't slip and seem to stay cool. If they wrapped around the belly they would be perfect...and they wash in a normal machine, big bonus!

Recently bought one for our Appy who is clipped and it's great. Only paid less than £57 for a new one on eBay.
