Oh dear, I went shopping at the weekend and bought one of the 600D Amigo light outdoor rugs and one of the 1200D ones.

The 1200D is brilliant and this morning horsey is dry and happy. Poor other horse wearing the 600D is miserable and wet. The rug is soaked through! (you can see just looking at it that the water isnt sitting on the outside). Very annoying, its completely useless!

I wanted the 1200D for both anyway as its a much stronger rug, but the store didnt have it in his size so thought the cheaper one would do. I didnt expect it to last long, but certainly thought it would be waterproof for a little while!

Anyone else had this problem?

I dont think I know of anyone who has bought a 600 that hasnt had leaks.

I stick to the boring blue 1200's and leave the summer pastels to those who can only stand a bit of drizzle!

I've found all rugs of 600 denier to be crud TBH! I have the 1200d Amigo as well, I made sure I got this one rather than the 600d one. I've had a Masta 600d and also a WB Landa (600d) - ALL have leaked like hell! So now I never get anything less than 1200d.

Thats interesting because I bought one on Friday (red one) and well have not noticed actually because since getting it (typical) its not actually been when when I've been up at the yard but we have had showers on and off all day yesterday, so I wouldn't be able to tell to be honest.

I know his other that he had last year (now grown out off), same rug thought, never leaked at all, even with long spells of heavy rain (while up at the yard) but I can remember other people asking the same question as you last year.

At the end of the day I know they are only £35.00 but they do state water proof, so if its not, I'd take it back.

Hmm, they really shouldnt sell it as waterproof. I have to say the colour is a bit loud too, I thought it was red, but it turns out to be hot pink (he does look a big girls blouse in it ha ha

I have contacted the shop and they are giving me my money back, but its all hassle as I still need to get hold of one that fits him. B*gger :

Even more interesting now because the one I bought him last year was more of a laud red as you say, but this one which I bought on Friday is not as pinky red, more burgundy red (well not as bright should I say), certainly a different red to last years anyway, but my last one was actually fully waterproof though...how strange.

You do realise that now I'm going to have to test how waterproof this rug is now don't you, hmmm

I feel the hose pipe coming out....someone might get a little wet *evil laughs*

Hi Kenzo, I think mine looks like the colour on the horse in the picture (definitely a pinky red anyway).

I'd be interested to know how your test goes, do let me know. Poor old Barney looked very p*ssed off this morning. He likes to think he is a big brave butch 'stallion' but in reality he is a very wimpy, slightly overweight gelding who feels the cold

i have a 600 but i don't put my horse out in heavy rain in it, its for showers, never had a problem to date and had the rug 8 months

Just looked on their website and it says:

AMIGO 600D LITE TURNOUT

Waterproof and Breathable
600D Polyester Outer
Nylon Lined
Front Leg Arch™
Classic Original Cut

Perhaps they should amend to 'light shower-proof'

This is very odd, because I have a four year old pink 600 denier one which is excellent, and last year I bought a navy 1200 denier one, which leaked straight through and I got my money back ............

My Masta light-weight isn't waterproof either. I do think though that as they are intended for "summer use", showerproof is all we could reasonably expect them to be. I bought a lightweight Shires from Ebay and that is perfectly waterproof.

I have to say I have a few 600D ones, but they are a few years old - none of them leaks
All the newer ones are 1200D, don't leak either obviously.
It would be interesting to know if their 'new' 600D fabric comes from different source maybe?

Was about to purchase one of these....(finger hovering over the 'add to basket' button, but had second thoughts and then saw this thread)......never had a problem with the MWcombo but I think these have a higher 'D'....

So off to search the web for an alternative.

Shame really...was gonna get the matching headcollar too.....

Yes the rugs are made in China now as to Ireland originally. Rambo are still made in Ireland but Amigo and Rhino are china.
I would say the 1200d ones, even though more money, are fab and that is what I use for my horse, but the 600d I have had a few customers say they leak but it seems a bit hit and miss to be honest.

have seen this come up several times now and am beginning to think that the less tight weave means they are less waterproof.

Even if they are for 'summer' (UK summer!) they should and need to be waterproof as advertised. My boy doesn't fit the amigos he needs the V-neck in horseware but I have a loveson which is a couple of years old now only cost about that much and still waterproof is prob 1200D though.

I've moaned on here a couple of times about my 600D that I bought last year - I would have paid extra for the 1200D had I realised how much of a difference it makes to it being 'waterproof' - I'm not bothered how 'tough' it is because my pony doesn't wreck rugs. I emailed Horseware a couple of weeks ago but haven't received a reply.

My OH is so bored of my moaning about it over the weekend, he has just purchased a new PE rug for me so I'll shut up now
grin.gif

Ha ha, will try to 'up the moaning' in the hope someone buys me a replacement too

.

I have emailed Horseware too, just a few minutes ago. The shop has been very good about it, but feel Horseware should know about it. I dont hold out much hope of a reply though if you have waited this long. Could you let me know if they ever do reply to you?

The 600 is a summer sheet isn't it? I've got their LW TO which I think is 1200D and that has never leaked.

I didn't think the 600 was marketed as a fully waterproof TO rug, more as a shower proof sheet.

No its a summer turnout but they class it as waterproof whereas it is more shower proof.

They call the summer sheet a summer sheet as in a cotton stable/travel rug

I've checked on the website and both are described the same - Waterproof and Breathable - I wouldn't describe the 600d as either

Will let you know if Horseware ever reply to my email - it's a shame this has happened as I have their M/W and H/W rugs which I would recommend to everyone - fantastic rugs.

I bought one. Useless that it is.

I contacted Horseware who told me no one else had made any complaints and if I had it washed and sent it to them they would "look into it".

Ermm.....no ta. I just bought another! What's the point in paying £12 to have it washed, before they'd even look at it? If you're having it washed, you might as well pay to have it proofed which should solve the problem anyway.

On the plus side....the 1200D one is a fabulous rug and holds up to the torrential rain we had over the weekend.
