What do you think of it??
Ive just bought a lw Amigo turnout and it has the new type fastener and its making me feel a bit uneasy lol. The rug is basically being held together with velcro at the front. I put it on tonight as heavy rain forecast here and I was checking and double checking it was securely fixed together! I imagine in time the velcro could lose its stickiness, such a shame as the rug is other wise great.

I bought one and don’t like it. It’s too high and I can’t put it on my older WB because it looks like it will dig into his gullet when grazing. I’m going to try it on my new Horse to see if it fits any better. Cannot see the point if it really, quite gimmicky.

It seems to fit my girl quite well but it does sit high, shes only a baby though and has some filling out to do. Im a bit gutted as Id rather have any fasteners but this! I just dont think its secure at all. I can see me having it changed to a clip and ring at some point very soon.

I think this is a step in the wrong direction for Horsewear/Amigo. No matter how well you look after velcro, it eventually loses it's grip and isn't secure. I also have very inquisitive ponies who would rip each others rugs open in no time and create a dangerous situation. I'm not impressed with them.

Snap! Its awful, Im really dont like it. I didnt know when I ordered that they had even changed. Just ordered the better 1200 denier vesion and have to say wasnt impressed. They sent 2 plastic discs with it which made me think, well this obviously isnt going to last lol.

I’ve just ordered a new amigo rug and purposely went for one with the V straps as I don’t like the look of the disc, nor trust it’s longevity

This. My gelding spends half his time with the velcro straps of neck rugs undone. Velcro straps are too easy to grab when they're playing.

It's one thing for a travel rug/stable sheet, but I definitely wouldn't buy a turnout with it.

I ordered one not so long ago and they sent, by accident the old v clip closure. I was going to send it back but after a bit of research i chose to keep it and am glad i did!

I'm glad I read this thread, thank you OP, because I was going to order 2 today. It does make you wonder how they do their research because I can't imagine many customers expressing a preference for this. The front clip on a rug is one of my major considerations when buying, I look for one which sits comfortably on the horse, has a design which is strong and reliable and no sticky out bits which could get snagged on fencing / haynets. What a shame, I like the Amigo rugs but will need to look at other brands this time.

I had one, hated it, got grass and stuff in the velcro and I wasn't convinced it wouldn't come undone and go off backwards. Also trying to do them with cold numb hands I found difficult. I wouldn't buy one again. I've been an avid horseware rug buyer for 20 years but if they start putting these on all their rugs I'll be moving to another brand. Shame as they seem to have released the new range with lots having those closures. I'm hoping they will change back. As a company their rug improvements are usually good. This one is not !

Just an update. She wore the rug last night, only the 2nd time used. Turned out with a 32 yr old, so not exactly a pony whos going to play, she is a sensible young mare and the field has lots of grass so no need to go searching in the hedges etc and guess what.... one of the velcro fasteners had come undone and out of the disc :( She has definately rolled so I can only think this is whats caused it. Im really peed off as I dont want to use it anymore and will lose lots if I try to sell. I didnt know when I bought it that it was the disc closure and tbh didnt even know what it was, but to secure a rug with vecro, especially a turnout rug isnt good. Im going to email Horseware now and see if I get a reply, failing that it looks like it was an expensive mistake as Im not actually sure how it can be modified. I had thought Id try and have it changed to the old type clip system but the disc is quite wide so the clips wouldnt reach.

Surely you can return under sales of goods act, as not fit for purpose!

I hadn't heard of these but having now looked them up.. No way would I trust bits of velcro.

PS... I've seen them reduced already.

The front of a rug has alot of pressure put on it when rolling . A bit of plastic and a couple of bit of velcro were too much of a concern for me. I had visions of it going off backwards and them tangling the belly straps in their back legs. I decided it wasn't worth it to get proper straps put on so mine now keeps the edge of my hay stack dry when the wind blows in the barn........

I agree totally, if I had known it was velcro fasteners I would never have bought it, I did mention it to a friend who tbh didnt seem concerned and as I am a born worrier lol, needed it as my other LW had leaked in the heavy rain so used it. I could kick myself now.
This is the email I sent to Horseware and also to the retailer I bought it off as after reading Horsewares website it says to take up any issues with the retail for products already purchased :( We shall have to wait and see now what and if I get a reply. IMO it isnt fit for purpose so I will take that up with them Fuzzy Furry if I dont get any joy. Im just miffed as I need a waterproof LW to use now and obviously dont want to buy another just incase they offer to do something about it.
Thanks for all your replies, below is what I put in my email.

I recently bought the LW Amigo Bravo 12 plus and it came with the disc closure front fastener. I have to say I was a bit shocked the rug was basically secured by velcro but used it as I needed it. Last night was only the 2nd time I have used it and I arrived this morning to see one of the velcro fasteners had come apart and was no longer through the slot on the disc. Im really concerned and upset about this as I am now afraid to use it again incase next time both come undone as a serious accident could happen if it does.
My horse was turned out with her quiet 32 yr old companion so definately no playing or high jinks could have caused this and the field is full of grass, so she had no need to search for grass in the hedges. She has rolled so I can only presume this is how it has happened but it should be able to withstand that.
Im honestly shocked that a company with such a fabulous reputation for manufacturing quality rugs would make a turnout rug that is secured by velcro. I wont use the rug again for fear of it happening again, its just not fit for purpose, so basically its just been money down the drain and Im not in a position to replace it with another. Its such a shame as it is a fantastic rug apart from the front fasteners.
Is there anything you can do to help me please?
Many Thanks

I’ve just purchased the LW bravo 12 too but I specifically ordered with clips so there is obviously still a choice

Im gutted as I didnt buy it for the disc thingy, I just wanted a decent quality LW turnout with a detachable neck. If I had seen one before buying I wouldnt have bought it. I would have much prefered the clips. Where did you buy yours from please, its looking like Im going to have to buy another as I really need one. Its looking like it may have to go on tomorrow :( so the sooner I can get this sorted the better.

Good letter, wish I'd done the same but mine was months ago. I just hope the company get the feed back

I just thought Ive nothing to lose by trying, I have dealt with Horseware customer services years ago and was disappointed with them, so Im just clutching at straws really lol

Would it have been worth directing them to this thread to show them that everyone is of the same opinion?

Thank you, I was thinking the same too but will have to give them chance to reply first. HW say 3 working days and the retailer 2 days so I will just have to be patient lol. I never normally follow these things up but Im a bit miffed my concerns happened after 2 days use and also the money wasted :(

Just an update on the emails I sent....... no reply from either the retailer or Horseware :) :) :) so Ive emailed the retailer again as Horsewares page says to contact the retailer for rugs already purchased. Im not sure what Im actually going to acheive but a reply of some sorts would be courteous.

Try raising it on Twitter. Only way I've had joy with getting utility companies to sort their **** out.

I'd write again and make it much clearer what you want. Say that you feel the rug is not fit for purpose and you either want a replacement of one with the old style fastenings, or your money refunded.

I have had two rugs with the disc fastening since late last winter. Worn by two horses. No problems or issues so far. Seems fit for purpose to me. Whether still is in a few years remains to be seen. I have no complaints so far. I have spare discs with the rug.
