My HW cob has somehow bulked up even more since I bought her fly rug in a sale at the start of winter. I can just about do it up around her shoulders if she breathes in and promises to stand completely still in the field.

Is the Amigo XL as good as it's touted to be for the chunkier equine? If not, what is good? She's not destructive of her rugs, so happy to invest in something pricier if it'll fit.
 
Yes, it is. I had the whole range of amigo XLs for a heavy weight traditional who is sadly no longer with us. The cut and design was brilliant. The only criticism on the turnouts, was that the orginal rugs when they first came out, were tougher and more durable. However, no other rugs ever fitted him and the XL fly rug didn't pull around his chest and withers.
 
Mines not a HW but she has an enormous front, to the point that rugs used to make her look not quite right in front as she couldnt move her shoulders properly. I got a Rambo Optimo turnout for her and I wont ever use anything else now. The difference was amazing. I've just managed to get a Rambo Summer Series fly/rain sheet thingy second hand and I'm hoping that fits as well as the Optimo, as neither my waterproof fly rug or my amigo aussie fit round her shoulders!
 
Update: I managed to pick up an Amigo XL second-hand for peanuts. The neck cover fastens (which is more than her Maxima did) but it's still a bit tight across the shoulders. The rest of it fits her perfectly.

It'll do for now, but I think I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on a Ruggles Heavy Horse or something else designed for draught breeds, in case they're any better.
 
I have a heavy and (after years of searching) have resigned myself to the idea that I can only buy Ruggles or Epic (the Big Horse Shop).
Ruggles currently have free postage on all their stock but do have a few good sales through the year. The big Horse Shop tend to have end of season sales but popular sizes fly off the shelves in minutes.
