Amtrust horse insurance, any good????

Are you sure you've got that right? AmTrust are insurers in their own right as far as I am aware. Towergate AIUA is an underwriting agency but I don't think AmTrust use them for their policies.

Very odd - you sure you were on the AM Trust site as they have no connection to Towergate AIUA. The website for AIUA quotes is insuremyhorse.co.uk and is run by Ceta insurance.

Amtrust underwrite their own policies, they started life as an underwriter then moved to being an insurance co in their own right (same as NFU underwrite their own polices).

I'm with amtrust. Policy renewed this year and they told me they underwrite themselves, and haven't had any notification of them to say otherwise.

Either way, they're excellent.

I am going through a claim with them at the moment. They are friendly to deal with and are paying all invoices quickly. The only issue is the small diagnostics limit of £1200 - which my horse blew with great extravagance. Other than that they are very good.

I don't think AmTrust are brokers - I've just had a quote emailed to me which states they underwrite themselves.

If you have a competition horse and you ring them, the quote is substantially cheaper (they have a new competition horse policy).

Because they underwrite themselves, they can put whatever exclusions they like on and you talk to someone who knows what is sensible and what is not - they literally read the exclusion out to me as they typed it.

I am 99% certain my business will be going to them, and that KBIS, whim I have had nothing but praise for in the past, will lose my previously loyal business due to their ridiculously extreme exclusion.
