amusing a horse on long term boxrest?!

my horse is on box rest for 6 months with a bad fracture, probably longer as the horses will be coming in for winter soon! he gets a walk daily for 10 minutes for some grass which he enjoys and gets the crystal salt licks which he adores. i groom him daily and have been experimenting with some massages to relax him. as i cant be with him 24/7 to keep him amused i was wondering if anyone knows anything i can do to stem his boredom? i cant give him any feed balls (much to his dismay!) incase this causes further damage to his fracture and he also cant have lickits as the sugar sends him loopy. If anyone knows any activities we could try or any boredom breakers it would be great! thanks!
 
You can tie up a swede, put some pieces of carrot or some apples in his haynet.
Pick nettles or some thistles to add interest they also enjoy hawthorn or gorse.

he doesnt like swedes im afraid, such a fussy guy haha, also do the carrot and apple thing, he finds and eats them all in minutes! will try the thistles and hawthorn thanks :)
