Since last night she has been retching every couple of hours or so (not overnight when she was asleep) as if trying to bring something up? But she had the new food last night, so absolutely no bones with it :confused:

I am wondering whether she has now made her throat sore and is just adding to it every time she retches - she never brings anything up - it definitely isnt kennel cough, I know what that sounds like by now :o

Any thoughts please?
 
No she hasnt had anything like that :( I distinctly remember the first time she did it yesterday evening, she had been flat out asleep on her side on the sofa and just woke up quite suddenly and retched quite hard :o

I have just put my fingers down her throat as far as I can (she was very oblidging about it!) and cannot feel anything unusual at all :( Although interestingly she is not now retching, which I would expect her to do after I had done that to her!

She ate her tea as normal tonight in record time, has been drinking the same amount as usual, and has otherwise been bright and cheerful all day :o
 
Hmmm bread didnt help :( Amy isnt one who tends to eat grass (although Flick eats loads!) and she is still at it :( Another trip to the vets coming up I think :(
 
Could she have swallowed a wasp and been stung? Tbh my first thought was kennel cough as she has just been in kennels hasn't she, could it be a very mild dose so not true kc symptoms?
 
Mmmm I am beginning to wonder about KC too MM, having confidently said it wasnt that :( Not going to the GRWE show today just in case :( She is fine in herself, eating & drinking well and bouncing around as normal, so not sure what I can do for her :(

Aaaargh dogs, why do they always break at the same time :(:(:( More worry :(:(:(
 
They can indeedy retch with KC:p as suggested sometimes when they get it a little milder they will retch on and off as opposed to full on coughing/spluttering and choaking, she has pro had it before so would be more likely to get a milder bout, you got any honey? you could try and coat her throat and see if it helps.
 
Havent got any honey at the moment Cayla but can easily get some - just spoke to my mum and she said KC as well, apparently 5 days is the right incubation time? :( Which means the others will get it....aaaargh :D I so nearly had them vaccinated before they went into kennels :mad:

Amy has just coughed up a load of white froth for the first time (all over Islay, how sweet :o) which is apparently another sign???

Blummin dogs, just a worry :(:(
 
Carey - get manuka honey at least 10+ (is medical grade) - it really helps with its antibacterial action. Put a teaspoon on a piece of bread and give it to all of them - will help the others fight of the infection as well as getting Amy better - cheaper than antibiotics!! Make sure they have at least two lots a day - and about 15/20 mis before eating.:)

Any honey left over you can keep to put on their open wounds.............;):D
 
Thanks SU :) I know I had some manuka honey for the horse, I am wondering whether I have any left... will have a look, and get some if not :)

And thanks for suggesting how to give it to them, I have been trying to work that one out :D:D:D

Yep sounds like she has it then, the white phlegm is as suggested another sign, hopefully the other too will just do a bit of retching and not full on choaking/coughing:p
Some dogs just lick the honey up, PBS little Ozz likes munching on it freely:D
 
Sounds like KC, but Chlo has done this once and she'd eaten something (god knows what) that had left a scratch on her throat, so she just kept trying to hack it up. Stopped after a few days.

Amy and Flick loved the honey on bread, Islay wouldnt eat it :mad: I was going to give them some on their tea tonight... until they pre-empted this...:mad:
 
We get plenty of dogs come in that have been vaccinated and still catch it if it going round. One couple are not best pleased with their Vet as the Vet insisted they had it done, despite us telling them we didn't required it, but if they did have it we couldn't take the dog in for 10 days to allow an incubation period. Vet did the dogs 2 days before they came in.... :rolleyes:
 
sounds very much like kennel cough. benelyn for kids, chesty cough is soothing - oh and you'l need to keep her away from other dogs for a few weeks too. Even after the symptoms have cleared up, dont take her anywhere other dogs are walked. BEst to ask your vet how long they advise...
 
Oh yes she is very much in isolation NsN - thank god I didnt take her to Blenheim yesterday :eek: especially as my mum has a litter due any day....:o

Just waiting for the others to start now :(

its horrible isnt it. dont worry, the others might not get it - we've had single cases before.
