I read the 30 page report. And the most blatantly questionable issue is that the tribunal accepted and obviously based the leniency of the punishment on testimony of people who were friends of and/or people who could benefit from her not being banned for a longer period. The testimony of the Roycrofts and Landolt was obviously ignored...I feel badly for them, they did the right thing and spoke up. They really put themselves out there to plea for Le Samurai and they were not listened to. Unfortunately, I would suspect that there will be negative repurcussion for them, with the upper level eventing *good old boy* cliques, for taking a stand and speaking up.
I really do think it would be great for everyone who can to email them with support and thanks for standing up.

I have emailed CL to say thank you for his honesty and common sense in a world obviously inhabited by toadies and arse lickers.
 
Having read the entire report it seem that all the comments of those 'against' AT were dismissed out of hand or just ignored whereas much more attention seems to have been paid to the comments of her supporters. Did they not consider the difference between impartial observers and experts, and her friends, colleagues, and trainer?

I have emailed all the sponsors listed by seansheep. If you would like a copy of my email to see what i wrote feel free to pm. Basically said that the company has a well respected name which they are tarring by supporting a rider found guilty of animal cruelty by FEI etc... and that i and many other members of the equine industry would be forced to withdraw our support for their company if they continued to support AT etc...

I have too, one of the emails seansheep posted bounced back, so I looked up another horseware address, I sent this, adapted from the copy seansheep sent me (Thankies):

'Amy Tryon lists your company as one of her sponsors.

I would ask you to remove your sponsorship from this rider following her being found guilty of Horse Abuse by the FEI when riding Le Samurai at the Rolex Kentucky this year, which led to the death of the horse.

Your sponsorship of this rider will bring no credit to your company.

Your products will be boycotted by myself and my associates until you remove your sponsorship from Amy Tryon.'

Then for good measure I sent it to to every sponsor on her page.. Amy Tryon's Sponsors

I know how hard event riders work for for sponsorship, so it sort of pains me to do this but a £404 fine and 2 month ban? It could've at least been long enough so she couldn't qualify for anything..

I'm hoping this isn't defamatory.. eep.

This struck me as well and I am very disappointed that the FEI did not take this very obvious conflict of interest into account when considering their testimonies.
 
Thinking about MP and LG both saying they had had horses break down etc under them and didn't know either, since when do 2 wrongs make a right? And where were the testimonies from other riders who have had horses break down on them or sustain an injury and who did pull up?
 
Every time someone says how good a horseware rug is maybe we should put a note saying how they support Amy Tryon so effectively your money goes to supporting her. They are all good brands who spend a lot of money on advertising! There are also plenty of equally talented riders who I am sure these companys could support.
 
I emailed asking if in future they could find someone to support who hadn't been found guilty of cruelty and mudering their horse

FEI Judicial Committee hears case at Dublin CSIO
After receiving a complaint prior to the start of the Dublin Horse Show, the FEI Judicial Committee held a hearing yesterday in a case involving Ms. Helena Lundbach, who was witnessed mistreating a horse during training. Mr. Philip O’Connor presided the hearing and heard evidence from various witnesses including show officials. Ms Lundbach, who was witnessed making excessive use of a whip on her horse Conan in the show’s exercise area, received a fine of 3000 Swiss francs after apologizing for her actions which she stated arose unintentionally when the horse suddenly reared. The full decision is expected early next week and will be published on the FEI website.

The above, from the FEI website, reinforces what we all know - that the AT hearing was a total whitewash.

The FEI gave this rider 3x the fine for hitting her horse whilst AT horse died as a result of her riding.

Not only is the AT result a whitewash but it proves that the FEI decisions are totally inconsistent.

It would be nice if someone who cared about this case took a step forward and went for an appeal to the Court of Arbitration in Sport to get the sentence on AT increased - or did something like the LACS are so keen on at the moment in regard to hunting - take out a private prosecution against AT in the USA for horse abuse.

So some does by the sounds of it what Phillipa Dobby did at Hickstead and gets 3x the fine compared with AT

Only thing we can do now is to keep hammering her sponsors and get them to drop her.
 
It has been suggested to me that we should ALL be writing to the FEI to make our feelings known.

I am most certainly going to put pen to paper today.

There seemed to be a lot of emphasis on the abuse of Le Samurai being unintentional rather than pre-meditated.

Yet in HHO we read almost weekly, of legal cases where owners who have caused their horses to suffer, are banned from keeping horses for many years.
It could be argued, that in many cases, these owners are ignorant and/or unknowledgable, so they never INTENDED to cause their animals any suffering.

Amy Tryon has no such excuse. She is neither ignorant nor unknowledgable, yet her actions caused the death of a horse.

It seems that there is one rule for the professionals, and another for Joe Public.

IMHO, this half hearted ruling, and consequent 'punishment' is a poor attempt at being seen to have done the right thing for the viewers who saw her disgraceful display, while causing Amy Tryon the least possible damage.

A whitewash.

I will also add that it comes to something when Bettina Hoy loses an Olympic gold medal simply because she circled her horse, whereas Amy Tryon, a convicted horse abuser, will be able to compete in the next Olympics.
 
Very saddened with the result . I must admit I voted for a 2 year ban ( not life) as I felt that in 2 years she would hopefully be considered a has been , her sponsors would pull out , etc .

The whole affair stinks & I will be contacting her sponsors ( might be a waste of time , but well worth a try, imo . )
 
Exactly dubble. AT rode that horse on three legs over the final fance and the finish line. She showed no regard whatsoever for the welfare of her horse and yet, because she did not intend to hurt him then she gets away with a token punishment...

You may be interested to read the 'Just got a very interesting email....' thread also in this section which is know thowing up some very interesting information about AT's so called sponsorship.
 
I've been following this with interest since it first hit the news, but only today saw the video of the "run" to the last fence, and her jumping it.
I cannot believe that she didn't know the poor horse was lame, and watching just that bit of footage showed that she had more than enough room to pull up before the fence. Not to mention that she also went round a corner before the fence - surely an obvious stopping place.
I was completely horrified to watch her continue on and make the horse jump, it made me feel physically sick and brought tears to my eyes.
I think that Ms Tryon and the FEI both need to look very carefully at what repercussions this is having on the eventing world, not to mention the general public. After all, the horse is not aware of it's sponsorship / value / talent etc, and LS was merely trying his hardest to please her and do his job. At the cost of his life.
I have been left shocked and very saddened at this - and think the "punishment" from the FEI is also incredible in it's leniency. Therefore I have voted for a life ban, as I don't think she should ever be allowed near a horse again.
 
It feels a bit like the FEI was trying to get out of punishing her - so made it as minimal as possible. I think a year of two would be about right - on a par with doping offenses/missing dope tests for human athletes.

The whole point of the change to the abuse rule (to delete the reference to intent) appears to be so you couldn't claim - oh I didn't mean to do it and get out of it - intent is very hard to prove in any context, particularly as they appear to require subjective intent.

Is it really acceptable for a rider with that little feel to be riding at that level? For someone that intent on the goal that they can't notice a little thing like their horse going lame under them, or conceivably someone waving a flag to make them stop as there is an injured rider the other side of the fence?

In a lot of contexts there is a dual standard - the person's own knowledge and the knowledge they'd be reasonably expected to have, given their position.

AT as a top rider with 30 years of experience should be subject to a higher standard than someone at their first 4* event.

Anyone think the FEI is going to quietly redraft the rules so that intent is needed for abuse?
