I had a stong mare I hunted with a three ring gag with a curb strap. Also tried her in a kineton but not so good, I was gutted as I thought it was THE answer! I always had to change her bit as she worked out how to evade it but the gag was good for a long time.

the only kineton i ever found that worked was one of the old fashioned ones with the metal inserts in the nosepiece , although this has now got no effect as he has developed new tricks for that one :p never got on with a three ring...
and now considering the dexter as a good possibility as these are designed for the strongest of pullers and are relatively cheap compared to a myler! hopefully getting one soon to try :)

might be up for borrowing a universal if it's on offer after anyone else has tried it lol. still trying to find that perfect bit! got the tom thumb and leather curb strap for tomorrow - fingers crossed i can avoid falling off on the road crossing this time - there's only one bit of road amongst miles of old turf and i managed to fall off on it!

a dexter is simply a snaffle bit with a large metal ring around it which goes into the mouth with the rest underneath the jaw

it works but giving like an extra mothpiece to the bit, which as is pulled back in the mouth the ring is also pulled back and may put pressure on the roof of the mouth causing the horse to listen.
they are mainly used in racing for the strongest of horses... and have a good reputation for stopping horses with gobs like iron! lol but in hands that aren't good they can ruin a mouth rather easily....
so im hopefully giving it a try :p wish me luck :)
