This week we had the annual club senior camp.
I only managed day 1 last year due to the Tripping over Own Feet pony and the painful incident of The broken Collarbone.
This year I could only get to do Day 2 as I was away. I had promised family that I really Wouldn't do it this year but I felt I had unfinished business. So day 2 was offered and I accepted.
Now I've not done any jumping for ages and I'd missed the training day so I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. Well I had the dressage test which I'd glanced at and thought it was same as last year's. It wasn't and I only realised this the night before the Big Event after I'd spend 12 hours travelling from Ireland in an already sleep deprived condition thanks to big sister who Talks A Lot and kept me awake till almost 4 am. Which was why I was late and poor horse and I must have presented a very sorry sight. Come to think of it maybe he wasn't snoozing during inspection. Perhaps he was just ashamed at my sorry attempt at presentation. Showing will never be my thing.
So SJ time and to me there seemed to be a lot of fences! I've only
ever jumped 3 in a row before in lessons so being presented with 8 was a little intimidating quite apart from the fact that I messed up the sequence when I had only 3 to jump. It didn't look promising but much to my surprise we neither messed up the sequence nor knocked any poles. Hurray for Can Jump horse.
On to working hunter event next. I'd watched the training for this last year whilst trying to convince myself that I really didn't have a broken shoulder and I'd feel better in a bit.
Different horse this time. The boy was willing but sadly this cob really Can't Jump. He tried hard but we actually went through the jumps rather than over them. Happily I'd ridden Can't Jump before and we get on very well ..we'd even established that he can do pole work but it seems no one ever told him about jumping anything. He got lots of praise for his efforts so its just possible that he now thinks that knocking the poles is the way to go
Now the tale of Wont Jump and the X country course. Earlier on Wont Jump was actually Can Jump but somewhere between 11am and 3pm it seems he changed him name. So at fence number 1 he kindly sent me on ahead to clear it on my own. I remounted and did the course x 2 just to establish that he Could and Would jump and we both finished happy. Me because I'd fallen off, got back on and carried on and Can Jump Ifyouasknicely because he was now done for the day.
So an eventful day for me. My first ever participation in anything remotely resembling a riding competition. First dressage test, first SJ ..ah hell first everything including falling off and not getting hurt. : D Oh, and my First Rosettes.
Maybe I will give t a go again but next time I will try being a bit better prepared ..
