Took Socks for a showjumping lesson with Michael Potter yesterday, and Socks was a babe as per! I wanted to work on courses seeing as I am competing at the weekend and was feeling a bit rusty! It was one of those lessons where not everything goes perfectly...it was more of a ''whoops!'' lesson where I kept making silly mistakes everywhere, but not drastic ones, so I ended up learning a hell of a lot in the session, it was very productive and positive!
We worked on rhythm, quality of the canter and also keeping straight as Socks has a tendency to approach a fence straight, but whilst in the air he drifts to the right and lands quite far out on the right hand side of the landing side to the fence - almost right at the edge by the wing! (and I am rubbish and have been letting him do so...). So after being shouted at a lot, and Michael repetitively going ''nope, not straight, do it again.'' and ''no, you had another stride there, wait. Do it again!'' ''again!'' ''again!'' - I think he was doing it on purpose as he knew I was hungover!!! hahaha - but it really did drum it into my brain, and I eventually got it right!
Here is a video of the best bits, including a blooper bit where Socks knocked Michael's mug off the wing - it seemed really funny at the time for some reason! hahaha; ''20 faults for the mug!'' he shouted at me! (if this link doesn't work then the videos and full report are also on my blog at www.mkw-equestrian.weebly.com/blog )

Another silly blooper.....SOMEHOW (no idea how...I must be a terrible rider haha) I was coming up to the green planks, and Socks did an unexpected jump over a minor dip in the arena surface, and for some reason it really took me off guard and felt more like he fell over but looks like he barely did anything in the video....but I lost my reins?!?! Really not sure how.....real numpty rider moment.....so I jumped it a bit dodgey - Socks was very honest! Excuse my language....he did tank off afterwards.... haha! I really need to learn to hold onto my reins!!!

So it was a very productive, and quite funny with the blooper moments!! But overall a really good lesson that I thoroughly enjoyed - as did Socks! But he, and myself, were very tired at the end (and sweaty! It was very warm yesterday!!).
So feeling positive at the moment for Arena UK at the weekend at the YourHorse ESUK Championships! Wish us luck, and maybe spot us on Horse and Country tv
Glass of pinot for any that read this!
