Hi All!

I know I am new here but I have been lurking around and wanting to join for a while.

I am a student on a degree course and I have an independent research project to complete. I have chosen to look at whether dog owners who participate or compete with their dog in dog sport (agility, obedience etc) experience a closer bond with their pets or not.

I have devised a questionnaire to look at this and I would be grateful if some of you could complete it It will take less than two minutes of your time and your input is very much appreciated! If you have any questions or would like to know the outcome just let me know!

Link to survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/S9FZJVQ

Thanks ever so much!

Amy

Done and also interested in the results. I have found that taking part in training and competitions definitely helps me to get more of a bond with my dogs.

Have completed and would be interested.

Not sure she's necessarily any closer to me than the 2 I don't compete but she certainly listens more.

Also, when I did obedience with my male when he was younger it definitely helped channel his excess energy - maybe that has an effect?

Very interesting :D

Sorry got to page 3 and couldnt answer the questions -I love my dogs totally, but I wouldnt say they make me feel wanted etc etc? Thats far too anthropomorphic for me :D However equally I couldnt "disagree" with the statements as IMHO that also doesnt represent the relationship I have with my dogs...

I agree - wasn't sure how to answer these.

done, would like to know results:o

Did find it interesting that it could be thought a dog and its owner could be more bonded by doing an agility course/flyball etc than an owner and his or her dog who jump walls, wire fences,go through hedges and retrieve various items thrown in their daily walks?:o

Done, I think you need an extra option, Inca is indifferent to people, most other dogs, kids, bikes, cars everything except jet skis it seems which she thinkes are here to be raced.
I would be intresed in the results too

Done but survey didn't allow for the age of the dog. Mine is only 7 months and still trying to get him to walk on the lead without pulling. Nearly there and if I answered your ?s in another couple of months I'm hoping the answer would be that he doesn't pull.

Done but I agree with this as my dog is the same age - could be a confounding variable? I love her to bits but wouldn't say that my bond with her is as strong as with my last dog which I had for 13 years.
I also had difficulty with the 'does your dog make you feel loved...' type questions. I would probably answer these differently if I didn't have other pets which I care for, but (I don't think) that makes my bond with her any less.
