Following on from Bugly's KWPN question, I have a really thick one that's kind of related!

How can a horse be registered as a KWPN, for example, yet you look at its lineage and its got hanoverian, holsteiner, oldenburg (Etc) in it? Are these types of warmblood, rather than actual breeds?

Sorry - probably the most obvious thing ever to be asked!

Yes they are all types of warmbloods. They get their name from the stud they were bred in - the stud usually owned by the government. Hanovarians come from the Hanover area of Germany etc.

Some stallions get approved by different warmblood societies for various reasons - usually because they are of the type bred by the particular society.

I have a Holstiner X whose sire is considered Holsteiner but has lots of TB's in the breeding.

Not a thick question at all this breeding milarky is darned confusing!

Mine is a KWPN X Appaloosa and is registered in both the Dutch KWPN Stambook and the Netherlands Appaloosa Stambook. But has a KWPN Passport. Confusing Not!
