Hello everyone i am new here but i see i can ask really dumb questions and not be ridiculed so i want to know why a sponsor would drop a really good rider like chris king because i noticed at the wekend he didnt have the ariat logo on his numnahs and not on his lorry either. does thatmean he is not still sponsored? i always follow him since i saw him at badminton i think he is really talented.

agree with ElleSJ - contract may have come to an end or the sponsorship deal may not have suited him/Ariat any longer?

There could be hundreds of reasons why..

that is a good reason for these things but also ariat are a very high profile brand and to be very frank ( waitng to be shot down now by the populace!!) chris king has not had the form to merit being one of their bodies when you consider the other ones include mary king and zara phillips. he hasnt had a top ten finish at any three day aside from a 5th at weston 2** since may 2004. He has aquired a couple of smart horses over the winter so maybe they will imprve his fortunes but sponsors want riders gettingresults and therefore their names and logo's in the news where people can see them.

you got that right! i remember having a bit of a laugh with clayton after he left them about how long the new boy would last! Done quite well really but how sick must the management have been when clayton trotted off and won the world cup!!

Slightly off the subject but I often wonder about sponsorship:

Will some riders have anyone sponsor them even if they don't particularly like the product and just grin and pretend they love it?! Or do they usually go after the brands they like/the company's offer deals to riders who already use their product?

If a sposorship deal ended would the rider go out of their way to use a rival company's product? This would probably depend if the deal ended on good terms...

How does it work if a team is sponsored by a direct rival of an individual rider's personal sponsor - who's product would they wear/use?

I find it all very interesting maybe because I'm shallow and am influenced by my idols!

LoL!! Yes, well there is a well known female rider who got dropped from their campaign beginning of last season and is now one of the newer faces of Musto... however I gather they are quite generous when they do sponser....

shallow is good and i would fall at the feet of one or two people myself but in answer to your last point perhaps someone could clarify why VW Toureg are not sponsoring the three day event team any more and land rover are!!

If you are desperate for the reason I can find out at the weekend may go and see a friend there. Hacked down t his yard the ther day and he had a very nice smart orse juming in the school!

thanks for the offer madgirl, but i am not that desperate to find out!! It was someone else who asked!! And rumour has it he has several nice new horses for this season so maybe ariat will live to regret it!!

Sponsorship runs on contracts usually of 12 months or so. Therefore they are within their rights after that time no to renew their contract. It is always a shame and it is sad that there isn't more support for riders but that is also commercial dictations.
