An example of "special"

Given the beagle thread that's been going for a couple of days, I thought I would give you an example of how "special" they can be.

It is -3 deg C today and snowing hard (you can see it in the second and third pics below); we expect about 6-8 inches when all is said and done.

Here is Bella Beagle this morning - as I also mentioned on the beagle thread, she takes her job as protector of the garden from wildlife very seriously. Here she is luring her prey close to her:

Note the layer of snow on her where she has sat patiently for a good while waiting for the squirrel in the background to come closer to her? She is also sat below the exact spot she knows is the squirrel's ultimate destination - our bird feeders which I filled up this morning.

In this one, having achieved her luring goal she's chased and treed the squirrel and is embracing her inner pointer and pointing at it so we all know where it is now we can't see it:

In this one she has plunked herself down into a sit below the tree and begun the whole process again:

It's at this point I saved her from herself and got her in for breakfast and she is now snuggled on the couch next to me. I have a feeling that she would have been there all day if I had let her and I would have had one extremely frozen beagle to defrost ....

:D She's gorgeous and very special!!! At least you know your garden is safe for you to venture into!! My boy likes to make sure the house is secure by patrolling just before bedtime...he especially likes howling in his sleep to!! That is guaranteed to get me up and out of bed, downstairs and peering bleary eyed into the dogs room wandering what the hell is going on!!!!

Thanks cobgirlie. It's nice to know they are looking out for us isn't it? I can only imagine what would happen if I tried to go outside and a squirrel was out there at the same time :D.

That's a fabulous garden you have there too!! Very jealous of all that space! She must get very tired making sure the everywhere is squirral proofed and safe for her humans!! :D

Thanks! We just moved into this house this past July and love having a nice garden for the dogs. Before all they had was a small hardtop driveway. Bella loves being out there and will spend time out there just being a beagle. The other two will meander around out there for a while but I don't think they really care one way or another about it.

Lovely little dog!

Mine is special too, especially when he tries to run through the doorway, misses and runs into the wall

Or his normal thing to do whenever we are outdoors

Thanks - they can come up with some strange things can't they? Be grateful he chooses to exercise himself around you like that sometimes to save you the effort!

Rather tenacious, isn't she! What a clever, and maybe rather chilly, girly!

Tenacious is a good word for her! Sometimes if I don't pay attention she will sit out there for ages and come in really really cold. That's when the real beagle is showing through - she is so busy being a beagle she doesn't pay attention to anything else.

So tenacious. Though my Boston loathes the snow, she gets equally fixated on little fluffy creatures. Today was equally cold in NYC, and rather than run around at the park, she stared down a sparrow for about five minutes--all while shivering off her behind.

I was a bit surprised by the other thread, actually. I've yet to come across a beagle that wasn't friendly to my dogs. I can't say anything about the poor recall aspect, personally, but there are plenty of them at the parks in the morning, and they seem to be fairly responsive.

And I'd take a beagle bay over an alien pug scream (sorry, Prince).

It sounds like Stella was embracing her inner beagle this morning - her friends to the north are proud of her :D.

I have to say that my other beagle is not friendly but that is a product of his lack of socialisation for his first four years before he came to me. Generally though they are super-friendly dogs and the baying isn't that terrible either (I count myself lucky to have never heard an alien pug scream :D). Of course, I am biased :).
