Suddenly struck with an idea. Why don't insurances charge less premium for customers who wish to only have six months instead of twelve months treatment from the onset of the accident/illness? This could be incorporated either upon renewal or mid term for a small charge. Would this not be a really effective way of bringing the premium down?
I know it wouldn't be ideal for cases like bad tendon strains which usually can take many months of treatment and healing time, and for rehab work like physio/chiropractor but for things like a lameness evaluation which results in the diagnosis of an abcess or a sudden accident like a cut leg that requires stitching and maybe a second visit, or even a colic episode that require intervention of a vet but doesn't require any further treatment it woudl be ideal.
People take the gamble that they won't lose their horse under 'humane destruction' and therefore take the cost of the animal down on renewal to save the pennies off their premium, or might reduce the amount of vets cover they have. This would just be another extension of the policy - and another gamble.
