I'm about to sort out my horse's insurance for next year. I know he's no longer worth what I paid for him (and what he's insured for) as he's 4 years older and has developed a tiny melanoma, so Im going to change the insurance value. How much would you say he's worth?
He's a 16.2 IDx, 13 years old. He's the world's best hack - perfect in traffic, forward going but safe, hacks alone and in company. He does riding club activities - lessons & competitions. Does a nice prelim test scoring in mid 60's and jumps nicely up to about 3' and is usually placed locally in both dressage and jumping. He's not the world's most talented, but gives 100% and always wiling to please. Only fault is he can get a little bit nappy at competitions if his friends are there too. Any contributions welcome!

Should add the melanoma doesn't affect him in any way, isn't growing and the vet thinks it will be 10 years before it's a problem, if at all.

about 1.5 to 2k the problem with insurance is if you over value your horse you won't get you money back if anything happens and you pay high premuims. i insure my horses so the absolute mimuin it would cost to replace them if the worst should happen. for example, my 17yr old tb gelding who is fanstatic in everyway i have insured for £500 because if i insure for more they would never pay out so i would be throwing money away for nothing
