An interesting cross

I tried to count them all, I reckon at least 12, wonder if its 2 litters.:( Looks like they're not selling as they had hoped, £300 - £350 down to £100 -150. Poor little pups, whats the betting they will end up dumped at a rescue, or worse!

phew, that was my opinion of the litter too but didnt want to put up a post all gun blazing in case people got uppity! Very irresponsible.

Price drop suggest 'Please buy these puppies, they're getting big, making loads of mess and the novelty is wearing off...'

I know what a mess 6 GSD pups can make in the house, gawd help them with that many pups of that cross. Mind you they don't actually look that big for 10 weeks old, and not very well covered either.:(

When will this trend for crossing two breeds of dogs then making up some novel name stop?? It's irritating - like chuffing Jedward!!! Grrr

Unscrupulous dane breeders have been using mastiffs in dane lines on the qt for years to get 'chunkier' heads on them....don't mind betting some have some bull breeds in too!

Re large litters - I am unsure of American Bull Dogs but my Great Dane came from a litter of 13, large litters are quite common unfortunatly.

I am the 4th generation of my family to have Great Danes. My Great Grandad started us off with them when they were pretty rare. Unfortunatly with their increase in popularity does seem to have increased idiot breeders. My Grandparents devastated at the loss of there last Great Dane purchased a Bitch from the breeder they had the last one from. They charged my Grandma £1000 for a pup that has a ridge on her neck, a head larger than our Douge de Bordeux and told my grandma it was due to 'Norweigan lines'. The dog is 3 and a half, can barely stand due to joints and is the most diformed looking Great Dane I have ever seen poor thing. To top this she is just a power tank of muscle!

Now by all means my Grandma should have known better but this dog apparently has papers! Putting her next to my bitch who is typical of how the breed should be they are worlds apart and she dwarfs her.

Why would you want to cross these to breeds.... what would you gain from it!

The trend with silly crossbreeds would stop if people stopped buying these over-priced mongrels!! Not that i'm saying that your average mongrel can't make a fantastic pet - just that the trend is encouraging people to breed more. I can't say that the whelping conditions in those photos yell out "Responsible breeder" to me, never mind the actual breeds crossed.

I do however, think Eurohounds (GSP x Alaskan husky)are an amazing result of crossing breeds. They are used for mushing & are very very fast. I've been asked if i fancy breeding a litter of them from one of my GSP bitches, & although, as a "breed" eurohounds do an excellant job, i won't because i'd worried that if i didn't find working homes for each & every one of them, that they might not be suitable for pet homes.

Shoei I see a lot of Danes now and have no idea what's happened to them....like the trend for merles....they weren't recognised before and are bloody ugly!

I saw what could only be a staffy cross Rhodesian ridgeback the other day, have to admit I grabbed my terrier pup and threw him back into the horse lorry at the sight of that solid head, it had serious jaws on it.

i agree. My mum had danes when she was a girl and said she would love to have another. However when we started looking at litters they all had much heavier jowls and droopy eyes, nothing like the dogs my mum had 40 years ago, and it just isnt nice.
I dont think we will be having another dane unless they get back to the old style dogs.

Paint me proud Vanmore still breed the 'old' type. Chaps mum has the Auldmoor danes which 8
I assume would be on their pedigree. My mum bred the Valedane gt....i have a pic somewhere
