Warning, this might be long...
Was talking to a fellow horse owner today who knows I am looking for someone to ride my horse for me. She knows of someone who's daughter loves horses and has some sort of developemental problems (austism-type-thing, I think) and she would like her to have some interaction with horses, and is even talking of buying one altho parents are in no way horsey.
So this friend of mine asked me what I thought about a loan/share to these people, but moving my horse to a full livery yard up the road (am on DIY with no facilities). Horse would be looked after by yard, girl would come once a week to groom, pat and have a lesson with YO (only once a week as they live 30 miles away but come near here to "therapy" classes) and I'd have horse the rest of the time.
Plus Points:
- I could ride more as yard has indoor school
- Someone wold be paying or at least contributing to my horses costs.
- Would be helping family out.
Bad Points:
- Feel bad that they would be paying for horse and I'd be using it loads more than them!
- I'd still have my pony at normal yard, so would still be micking out etc.
- Usual yard is rented with a friend, so I wouldn't have a huge reduction in livery costs going down to one horse again (used to pay £150/mth for pony, now pay £200 for both). Would friend be upset if left, but her lodger keeps her horse at other yard, so she knows it well.
- Other yard has funny mucking out policy and no winter turnout.
- Could it all get too complicated if they had the horse on a full share and started wanting to ride more, etc, but suppose could just give a months notice and bring her home again!
Lots of Cadbury Roses for anone who manages to survive this far!!!
