So, Loughanmore event today. Big event, walked course last night and thought ***** its big!
Dressage-not bad, was relaxed so much he got 'not forward' in his test, excellent. 10/12 in a high class field, beat some of the ones we don't always beat. SJ, brilliant, clear and no problems. XC, had to wait a good while for some reason, they were running quite a bit late so he got very tense/excited. 1/2/3 no problems, at a gallop,6 same. 7 the first test, log to skinny brush down a hill, no problems although I was a bit tentative! 8, log with water ditch beneath, grand. 10ab he went a bit fast (in/out of a copse) which meant a huge fast leap over 11a and missed our line to b, so did an s shape thing, to avoid crossing our tracks and then went for the jump. 12/13 (nasty upright wide skinny) fab, 14 HUGE jump through the hedge, he loved it! Then the water, bounded in and through it easily. 16 was a line of walls/poles (3) with short strides, he found it short but went on to 17, then a log, two long strides to a skinny, so kicked on then lost my reins and we had an error of judgement so ran head first into a tree....

Glanced off, wasn't sure what he'd hit but nobody seemed to be panicking and he felt fine so continue over ditch, bridge and palisade. Then a long gallop home, he was strong but controllable and we finished in the time. Got pulled up as I walked home to see did I want him checked, apparently he really banged his head. So cooled him off, by this stage he had a pretty bad nosebleed, not gushing but a reasonable amount of blood. Got him checked, cooled off and checked again, he settled then bled a little again but seems alright now. The only worry is that he may have broken one of the tiny bones, he now has some big lumps on his head(pics to come) hopefully just bruised. He's going anyway to get trotted up on tues hopefully to check soundness for necarne so will probably be getting him scoped (was only his runny nose nostril bleeding) and checked then for any problems. He seems ok though, keeping an eye on him.

Checked the results, and the fence judge at 11 had given us 20 penalties apparently they believed I had presented/been unable to get to the fence because of my speed. Yes, I had to wriggle but as far as I was aware that was within the rules, providing no crossing of tracks, hesitation/run out etc. Was a bit miffed as without them, we would have won

It also mars our perfect xc record (14 clears so far..). But we queried it twice and no good, fence judge has the last word. So, that's our day. At least I know he should have won.
