Hi all! Hope you are all well. It's been a while since I have been on here, and at that time I was struggling with the idea of having to sell my youngster due to martial breakdown and being unable to afford her upkeep and living alone etc...

Well, things worked out, and we are still a duo. And yesterday we started hacking out for the first time! She's been an absolute star and is doing so well.

My question is ... I managed to get hold of a Christ Lammfelle pad to use for backing her. It wasn't until I got it home I realised it came with the half tree addition, to enable stirrups to be used in the traditional way whilst riding. Has anybody used one of these? I'm pretty balanced, and up until my finding this pad it was all done bareback, this is just some added comfort for us both and security for me! If, however, this half tree means we can go without a traditional saddle for a while longer, it'd be a fantastic result! I was thinking of getting one of those gel eze fish pads to go under for added pressure relief.

Thoughts and insights gratefully received ☺️

I've had a Christ Lammfelle sheepskin pad for years and have ridden my tall, lively Arabian in it, and other horses that I've been asked to ride. I love it and far prefer it to leather/synthetic saddles, as I can communicate with the horse with far more subtlety and it's soo comfortable. I also feel quite secure in it, jumping up to 2'6" and clinging on when Arab does one of his "A leaf!! Can't Cope!" sideways dives!
