An update from me

I have only been incommunicado for about two weeks, but it feels like a lifetime!

For a little recap for those of you who don't know - my lovely dear Ed was diagnosed with suspected early LGL, so the task was set to make him lose weight and get him fit! In just over 6 weeks he's gone from
Blubber (sorry boy I just didn't see how fat you were - and thanks to those on here that helped me see it)

To hubba hubba!

He still has a little to lose, we have no moved up to 3 days of fast work, including jumping (his favourite) and we even managed to jump 3ft3! Which is mahoosive for me, Ed did everything, I just hung on and laughed afterwards.

It was no undertstatement he is grumpy when not in work!

But I love this horse more than anything, he'll never be sold.

It just goes to show you can find a diamond in the rough - if you can dodge his teeth long enough to polish him!!

. RE the quote above, have you only just found out that this was him? Or did you buy him from Leah3Horses?

Out of interest, how did you manage to get that weight off him

I just didn't realise Lea3horses was on the forum

it was amazing to read back and see how sad she was and now know we are all happy now he's in his forever home! I bought him officially in May

The weight was gotten off by no grazing for 4 weeks, he was only allowed a certain amount of soaked hay (soaked for 12 hrs) and no hard feed and he was constantly excercised, either by being in a pen or by being walked out in hand, once the farrier and vet gave the all clear he got back in to work properly.

He is now allowed out to graze as he is lean and fit, but I regularly bring him off the grass (maybe 3 whole days a week) just to keep an eye on him.

Long term I plan to start getting his weight down circa Jan, putting him into spring/summer as lean as I can.

I hope this time it works as for a while I was so worried about my lad!

Thanks guys, he's been like an angel, so accepting and I know for a fact he's been majorly pi**ed off being confined to his stable and or pen.

Its just a stark reminder that fat is not fab, I am so glad I had a wake up call before he got into proper lami and by that time it would have been too late.

Like my bruise? Its like a war wound, I like to think of it like a love bite! He must really love me..right?

and if he is anything like my mare she finds working easier now she has shifted her podge - especially if her cantering last night is anything to go by....

You will need to keep your eye on him around Sept time as the grass goes a bit mental again then but winter (frost excepting!) is a bit easier for montoring the tubbies as they use up so much more energy to keep warm!
