Good evening everyone, I don't get chance to post very often but I seem to have a bit of time free this evening whilst OH is watching rubbish on TV,
6 weeks ago we where happily popping around a course of 75cm and doing quite well at riding club level, fast forward 6 busy weeks and its like we are not even the same combination.3 weeks ago we did a xc training evening and well it was a bit pointless. the course has 3 options at each fence Tom has jumped around all the middle sized fences (Think 75-90cm) we explained this to the instructor but as we had been put in a very novice group we didn't jump anything bigger than 65-70 cm ad spent the whole time giving leads t other peoples horses, Tom was getting more and more wound up because we had to jump pretty much everything from a trot and he just wanted to go! So 2 weeks ago we took the hour and a half trip down to Craven Country ride (Which is fab for anyone thinking of going) and my little horse was amazing we have done a basic xc course a couple of times before but no major questions, but he was jumping into and out of water, up and down steps, owl holes, drop fences. He never looked at anything and we jumped around all there big fences. (I wish I could afford to event)

Jumping around Craven seemed to fill us both with confidence and the week after we went to a "Small village show" up north well there were 700 horse entries and we were totally out classed in the small hunter and he wasn't placed, however I was really pleased with how he went. He gets worried when the ring is too busy and there were 28 of us in a tiny ring and it was carnage trying to canter round in a group but he behaved perfectly.

Next was working hunter (80cm) and I was over the moon he seems to have gained so much scope recently and jumped his socks off I was very disappointed with the score sheets posted online he scored 11/20 for his jumping and he deserved a lot more he did a lovley forward going round but I suppose that's showing for you.

On Friday we hired out a school as the one on our yard is not big enough and too deep to jump anything bigger than 70cm and again he was amazing. my superstar jumped around a course of 1.05m this may not ben big to most of you but to us it is massive! He really tried for me, I put him in too close to one spread and 6 weeks ago he would have stopped if I had put him that close at 70 cm but he only went and jumped it. Came away so please wit him.

Today we went to riding club combined training. Dressage is so not our thing but he did a nice sweet test to come 4th in the novice prelim and then jumped clear at 65cm to come 2nd combined we stopped and he jumped a good clear at 80cm but we decided he need a bigger fence and he jumped an even better clear at 95cm.

We were hoping to have a go at a british novice on a ticket but all our localish shows clash with other events so we will leave it until next year now .

I cant believe the difference in both of us in such a short space of time, From no confidence to jump a cross pole 2 years ago to jumping what he is now is to me unbelievable. Next up a dressage lesson on Thursday and hopefully have a go at some BSPS workers on Saturday

I think it might be AA however I am still sick before every show. I am quite impressed with mothers recent photography skills not too long ago we either got photos of the grass or the sky lol

Thank you, he was bought as a happy hacker for mum but he's just proves to be a fantastic all rounder. I honestly don't think there is another like him , he is such a character x

That's amazing progress in 6 weeks, well done. I'm more like at your early stage 2 years ago, let's hope I can gain in confidence like you have. Any tips?!

I set a target for the year, this year it is to jump working hunter at our local county show. but I set mini targets so jump novice then intermediate then open workers at local riding club. My mini targets are all helping us achieve our big target but they also mean that I get a sense of achievement this helps to boost my confidence immensely.
Go slowly and if you think you have pushed yourself a bit far then take a step back. You jump the 60cm class every weekend, you push yourself and jump the 70cm it may be great that's fab do the same again next time. it may go wrong or it may scare you a bit, don't be afraid to step back down a level and try again in a few weeks.
baby steps are the trick (and I have someone fantastic on the ground who knows me and the horse better than we know ourselves and she knows how far she can push us both, Mums are amazing :) )
