Will start off with last weekend. Was supposed to be taking a lorry-load show-jumping on the saturday, a pupil's horse, a friend's horse who I was to ride in one class, D'Anver, and William to be diesel horse! However, pupil's parents bought a trailer during the week and were all set up to go in that, then D'Anver wasn't right, and then the times were so spread out that even though it's 45 km away I decided to do a separate trip for friend's horse and William (non-refundable entry fees, was damned if I was going to lose W's too!).
Friend's horse was very good to load, has taken 2 hours in the past, but had had a loading session on the Wednesday which paid off. Went well in the 80 with her sharer, just had the last down in the JO, then my turn in the 90, was quite worried about being showed up by sharer! However we did the same, one down in JO, although had fastest time. Cue very pleased fried as horse can be a nappy bugger, has traded off his looks for far too long! Horse has a Bates Cair saddle and oh my word it was LOVELY to sit in!
Back later with William, was really not in right frame of mind as had been haranguing the dealers all day. Tootled round the 100 in a rather uninspired fashin, thought I went quite fast in JO but only ended up 11th, however was top 25% so won entry fee back. Was first to go in 110, have watched video and really should have had about 5 fences down even before the 2nd phase but they stayed up somehow, galloped round jump-off including smart switch-back to last fence, but had had rail down in double. Was fastest 4-faulter so got entry fee back again.
Things rumbled on this week with D'Anver, but had my vet out Tuesday and news wasn't good. Have sorted things out reasonably satisfactorily with dealers, just hope he does get put down and not traded on and on and on. Let him mooch about on the lunge today and thought how sad it was that such a truly superb horse cannot have a working life.
Oh and this evening found William with a fat leg, he's scraped it in the field somehow and torn off his chesnut which had bled quite a lot. Not lame though so worked him then cleaned it up and popped bandages on. Just got this feeling 2009 is not going to be my year!
On the bright side had news from Italy; Liberty WON his first event on Sunday, led from the start and stayed on his dressage score, so a fab beginning to their partnership. Would be great if she does decide to aim for the Euros this year as they're in Belgium!
