An update on our new horse (although not so new now)

For those of you who helped us in the summer when we were looking for a new horse I thought I would keep you updated with how we are going.

Lita is a lot of horse for Abby so it's not a totally easy time for her but she is learning all the time.

This week we took Lita to her first show jumping competition - unaffiliated at Adlington. It was also the first time Lita has seen an indoor arena.



I am very pleased to say that they came 6th out of quite a big class and I think they both gained a lot of confidence from the event.

She is big - but Abby loves riding her and looks comfortable on her.
 
Which one was she?
Well done for finding something - she seems to be very sweet and tries hard which is the most important thing whilst they are getting to know each other.
 
Oh I think they look fantastic together! Well done to both of them - looks like they can both learn from each other.

Thanks Tia - I think they look great too - but then I'm the proud mum. I think she will help Abby a lot - Abby had a lot of confidence knocked out of her from the fall in the summer but is feeling much better after this weekend.
 
Yes I think this will boost Abby's confidence no end. So long as they continue to take things gently and gradually I can see a really good relationship developing. She's a beautiful horse by the way.

As she is only five and hadn't seen an indoor before, I think she went very genuinely and sweetly. She has a long stride, doesn't she, which makes the distances harder to judge. I think they did really well, and of course, will grow and learn together. She is beautiful!

Thanks M_M. I thought they did very well. Of course I don't really know about strides and all that (non horsey mum) but after a bit of a stress fit outside - I just said to Abby - look at the jumps - ride purposefully towards the jump and trust that lita will do it. I wish I had more useful things to say to her when she gets a bit stressed out.

A lot of us pay £30 an hour for someone to say that to us!
 
Thanks Tia - we think she is beautiful too.

And just so my other daughter doesn't think I am proud of her. She did the same show with her 8 year old ex racer who she is bringing beautifully.


 
Oh what a lovely little rider she is. They do look really beautiful together.

I'm really pleased you posted this thread. I was wondering how the girls were doing.

She looks a lovely and talented horse but please do not try to go faster and win these small classes. Work on her balance and confidence and rhythm forget about any speed .Work on her flatwork and getting the correct leg, that course was in a tight arena which would not really help a young horse .
I am sure they are having lessons, be patient and it will pay off as she looks a super horse
 
They are having lessons and certainly not from me - as I know nothing!!! - and when I said faster - I was meaning in the course she chose rather than speeding up - she went a convoluted way round in the jump off which cost her time.

I am so pleased things are going well, I was wondering only last week, my teenager went up onto horse this year and had a bad experience with a youngster (getting better now though!), I am so glad things are working out ok for your daughter.
