I am here, laying on my bed, very bored, and after all the kind messages I have had from you all, I thought it was about time for an update.
Its been almost 3 1/2 months since the accident were me and my friend were hit by a car while hacking.
I am still off work for another 6 weeks, although the Dr is quite happy with my progress. I also have the back brace on for 4 more weeks which is a dissapointment. We started off thinking we would go straight out and buy another horse that my husband would get used to the yard etc before I got on. But now we have slowed up on that idea, as obviously I wouldnt be able to try it out.
My friend, who was also hit was badly bruised, but not kept in hospital. I didnt know at the time, but Charlie, the horse that she was riding was also hit by the car. After giving him chance of recovery, we decided between us and the vet that he seemed to have suffered a brain trauma, he had a huge lump between the eyes that was just getting bigger and bigger,, and we felt the kindest thing to do was to have him put to sleep. So that happened over Easter. My friend has now got a new horse, which is fantastic, she is riding out on the roads which I think is great, I cant see myself ever doing that again!!!!!
Councelling is helping, i have felt so much better after being able to talk about it.
I know it will sound strange but I feel the lucky one to have been in hospital for 3 weeks as it cocooned me from all the emotion around the yard etc, which obviously my friend has had to cope with. I was able to grieve privately, in my hospital room, which I feel was best for me.
My husband has and is being absolutely great, I cant do much around the house, so he is doing a full time job and then coming home to the housework! he is doing the basics, but I have noticed today we have huge cobwebs and they really need doing, but I cant ask him to do more!!!!
So thats it really, I couldnt of got through this without the support of my OH, my family, friends from the yard, and all of you on here, with your kind thoughts.
Sorry, no real need for this post, but I do feel better for it!!!!

Some more virtual flowers for you as well. I had a very minor accident on the road many years ago and it did make me very nervous for a long time about riding on the roads even though neither my horse nor myself were fortunately injured, other than minor scrapes and bumps. I hope that in time you will get the confidence back as your friend has done. I am still probably more worried/cautious than most people but that is probably not a bad thing.

I am glad that you have got good support and wish you all the best with your recovery and feel very sorry for the loss of the horses.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and your OH sounds fab! Nothing wrong with a few cobwebs :D
Glad to hear your friend is getting on well with her horse, once you feel more comfortable and able, the same will happen for you - there is another horse as special as your last boy out there - all the best things are worth waiting for!

Hi!

I'm fairly new and never read your original post - I didn't realise your story!
I can't believe you've had to go through all that, how awful.

So great to hear you are on the mend and feeling so hopeful about the future.

Big ((((hugs)))) to you and OH for being so fab!

xx

Hi, I've been following your posts and you've certainly had quite a time of it! Thanks for keeping us all updated on how you are getting on. I am so glad to hear you are having counselling - that is a very positive move forward and will undoubtedly aid your recovery and confidence.
Just out of interest, has any action been taken against the driver who hit you?

Sorry to hear that your friend also lost her horse in this dreadful accident!. On a brighter note though, I am so glad you are feeling better. Have followed your story. I can not begin to imagine what you have been through but well done for staying strong and positive. Getting a new horse will be great for you. Take things slowly and each day as it comes.

Big hugs, choccies and vino for you! xx

Yeah, its been hard loosing 2. It is all a bit confusing, I had had benson for 9 years on loanfrom my friend, who was riding charlie, my new horse that I had had since sept, but she had got him OLWVTB.
So its been hard because we have both lost 2 horses with feelings for both.

I'm really pleased to hear that you are on the mend (albeit not as quick as you might hope!). Taking your time may not be a bad thing, it gives you the chance to grieve for your horse, and to straighten your head out after what sounds like a horrific accident.

Re the cobwebs - my mum had a back operation a few years ago, and Dad and everyone did loads of stuff to keep the house and everything going while she was out of action, but we still got cobwebs etc... Mum ended up getting a cleaner in to do a one off "spring clean" on the house. Think it cost about £30 - they did all the carpets, dusted and polished everything, re-organised the disorganised airing cupboard etc etc. Worked a treat and got things back to the standards mum expected!

nice big (virtual, and therefore calorie free) cake on its way!!
