And another question please - how do you select your BE events?

I'm trying to plan my events for the rest of the season (accepting that horse may go lame, ground may be awful etc etc!)

I'm doing Cheltenham Intro, Berrington Hall Intro, then looking for a nice PN (if all is still going well....) I was thinking of Sapey or Solihull, but not sure which? I know the course at Sapey well, and would feel comfortable doing the PN, so do I go for the easy option or something different?

I'm also planning to do West Wilts (8th Sept), Monmouth (15th Sept) and Moreton Morrell (22 Sept) OR Charlton Park (28th Sept) unless anyone tells me the PN courses there are awful

If you are looking for a first time PN I would choose Sapey over Solihull. The PN at Solihull can cause quite a lot of proplems. Charlton Park is a big PN and propably not a first timers track however it is a great event and a fantastic course if you are feeling up to it by the end of the season. Can't comment on the otheres as I have never seen them.

Can't answer your questions, but would just like to say that I'm am REALLY pleased for you and your progress... just as well you pulled the plug on the share!

Yeah I know - I'm like a kid in a sweet shop now, plus have no OH to give me hassle about how much time I'm spending at the yard/competing too

Who knows, perhaps I'll have to change my name to PNeventer if things carrying on being OK

- but feel my dream of doing a Novice one day on him will remain just that with my SJ ability

Thats really helpful thanks, will choose Sapey then and reserve judgement on C Park until we have a few more events under our belt - hopefully by then we will be relatively (well, compared to now) experienced PN competitors

I'm not brilliant at XC but my mare flew around Charlton Park. Had one silly stop but it's well worth the visit. It rode well and is a lovely setting. Sometimes the smaller courses can be trappy. I find if they are a bit bigger I tend to be a bit more agressive and kick on.
Chepstow was a bigger course but it rode much better than a smaller one if that makes sense

I did charlton park as my first pn and couldnt think of a better one really! - although i had done pc open area by that time.

Luckily Josh is a total XC machine (he has done BE novice with a couple of top riders, so has some points) so all I have to do is sit and steer - think I forgot to kick last time (our first ODE) but didn't seem to matter
