..cobs were boring. Normally I have a 'no cob' rule, now this is because every cob ive ever rode is a 'plod-a-long'. Ive been looking for a horse to share and went to view this cob because I had nearly given in! I rode him and he is more forward going than my last tb and is absolutely crazy in the canter. I dont want to sound weird but I love it! Its more intresting, but hes safe and sensible to handle. I share him now and hes an absolute gem, sorry bit of a random post

, does anyone else have a cob like this?

My Irish cob (now rising 20) has always been psycho! Fast and sharp as well as strong. Whenever I have talked to cob owners they often say they bought their cob for a sensible, safe ride and found out a bit late that cobs are nutters! Love mine though

My welshies were never ever boring, in fact, they were they best fun horses I have had and we did everything with them, including one day events.

People under estimate cobs. They can be spooky creatures, hopeless as "family ponies". They can be forward going and athletic. As you've discovered.

My cob is non spooky, will lead anywhere, will go on his own, does a passable dressage test, will stand at the drag hunt, xc rides etc..... but once you get going!!!!! He loves to canter, gallop - do the odd buck and will jump 1.10. Cobs are the best horses in the world.

My cob has never plodded anywhere.

On hacks he outwalks the longest legged horses on the yard and is instant off my leg to trot and canter.

Sometimes we even have instant brakes too.

He has very specific opinions about things - mosly that I am a complete numpty and he should be in charge and make all the decisions.

Though my other two appear to think the same so maybe they have a point.....

I think cobs are just like every other type of breed or horse - they're all different!

Cobs rock! Mine has very few brakes when she's on one, is one of the most forward going horses on the yard, but at the same time is one of the easiest to handle and behaves really well out and about.

My OH learned to ride on my friend's cobs and as soon as he was good enough to hack we had a riot! Although they were well mannered, they were always up for a hooley on bridlepaths (particularly the one near us which goes thru gorgeous lush parkland!) and when the fields were combined to stubble they were beside themselves

He was gobsmacked when we went riding in France and the escort told him he'd need to give the TB he was riding a slap with his stick to make it canter....

The cob I've been hacking on at the RS although nearly 30 is always 'up for it', really enjoys hacking, loves cantering and is not averse to galloping if he thinks it's a race...

I am getting a tad nervous about Thursdays 3 hour picnic ride with friend and our daughters, last time we did a bit much fast canter for my liking, this time we're taking another friend of the girls, so there will be 3 of them wanting to go faster.......

COBS RULE! My cob is fantastic because yes he can pull like a train when he is excited but will jump anything I put him at (absolutely loves XC), and can do a real decent Novice dressage test! The ultimate fun all-rounder!
