Bree was so good today - going really well. Got her up the hill by the M40 and let her have a bite of grass. Then something startled her and she headed off in a rapid trot - then full scale bronco. Cue me flat on my face and loosing consciousness. Luckily she went to see the stallion and was spotted and I was retrieved. Couldn't for the life me remember why I had a horse. So figured A&E was best. Mostly a bit dented, but nowhere the back protector was. Dammit now it's getting my confidence back again.

Oh and the back to work interview from hell. :)

Poor you.Wishing you a speedy recovery. Best get on again as soon as possibe. I use a stirrup leather as a neckstrap and if things get tricky it is really helpful!!
 
Oh ouch. Get well soon.

Just one thing, if you were knocked out, I would advise taking it easy. Even if you feel fine now, delayed shock can creep up on you.

I did not take it easy and then driving home from work suddenly went shaky and knew I was going to be sick :o (yes much too much information :D) - I managed to pull over but couldn't get my seat belt undone and the only thing I could find to be sick in was a sock :D:D:D - so beware of delayed shock!
 
Oops but that's horses for you , I second the advice about the neck strap I always use one also try to get someone to keep her in work until you are fit to get on again.

From what I remember noone was staying on that. I grabbed a big handfull of mane but it wasn't enough. Luckily she's on schooling livery so she will be ridden, but I really need to get back on ASAP.
 
Oh dear, they do sometimes like to remind us there is no such thing as bombproof. Good for you having a protector on, have to confess I only wear one for jumping but with youngsters or new horses especially, that may not be sensible. Hope you mend soon :)
 
As long as your porter doesnt bash the trolley into the CT room door like mine did when I went in last week for my neck!

I do think you've been getting ahead of yourself hacking out alone on a 4 yr old when you've not been riding again for long :o thowee
 
Once mended again could you perhaps get your instructor to spend some time teaching you how to fall & roll if you do come off again? And second the neckstrap.
 
I actually have a grab handle on the saddle. But it was no real use - too far back. Wouldn't have got to a neck strap. Was taught to fall properly and shoulder and knee injury says I did tuck. But clearly went down face first in tuck.

Stuck in obs ward waiting for test results. Very professional service.

Bored now. I'm going to be out for a couple of days, but need a plan for getting back on Bree. Livery worth weight in gold because they will check her and take her out.

Hat will be totalled, but I would like a less hot one anyhow. I guess I'm going to have to replace the back protector after less than a week's use as well. :(

Overreach boots also did their job as she'd torn a hole in the back of one.

Modern matrons doing their rounds of the observation wards. I've not been a patient in the time I've been working in the nhs and used to work here a few years back so it's fascinating.
