And I'm in A&E.

Good to hear - I think I've gone from a BP hater to a BP evangelist in about 10 seconds flat. :o

You can get shoulder protectors that attach to the airowear - think I might get some.

Now have ice packs stuck on my knee and down the back of my jeans on my hip.

Sorry to hear about your unscheduled dismount, but glad that you are (mostly!) okay. I like the idea of your writing to the hospital - people are always quick to complain and not so quick to express thanks. After my daughter came home from North Staffs hospital I wrote to thank them and had a lovely letter in return from the Chief Exec's office.

Just a thought - once you're back in the saddle, perhaps you don't need to rush back to the place you came off? Be kind to yourself and take it one step at a time.

Hi Sam,

I wish more people would write in to the NHS with both good and bad experiences. Compared to my A&E experiences in the 80s and 90s it was fabulous. That doesn't mean there weren't waits and I was there about 5 hours, but I nearly died when they did an ECG within minutes of me getting there and then got me in for a CT scan. I guess I did have symptoms of a traumatic brain injury (which is why I let them take me) so they would need to take it seriously.

Advice to others - if you regain conciousness after passing out twice and can't remember why you have fallen off a horse because you haven't owned one for years, go to A&E.

I guess I feel a bit that it is my responsibility that I bought a green 4 year old and I knew clearly what I was letting myself in for. So I feel that being wussy about getting back in the saddle isn't acceptable. That said it won't be happening that soon with my hip and knee as I couldn't mount at present.

oh hope you are ok I always fell off mine when he was in walk(yes and he would look at me as if what are you doing down their with a big grin on his face)

Hope you are ok usually it happens so fast and you hit the deck before you have a chance. But ouch and double ouch the ground is like concrete at the moment. Even when its soft its like concrete. Always happens when you least expect it doesnt it! (which may be a good thing ...sort of)?

Ah well at least it was a fly bucking gallop when I fell off.

Hobbled in to see Bree and mostly got ignored because she was eating dinner. I am going to be so jealous of the guy that rides her - now I'm worried she'll bond with him and not want me (yes I am 10). I'd have been cross if she looked messy and ungroomed but I still felt bad that someone had been grooming her that wasn't me. I guess it's sinking in that I'm not just going to be jumping back in the saddle in a couple of days.

Hat had taken impact at front like I thought - can't see any real damage, but it is definately getting replaced. Back protector is more difficult. There's a small tear on left shoulder at back, but none of the panels are compressed in any way. May continue with it and maybe buy some shoulder protectors.

Glad you are feeling a bit better and taking it easy. She's a horse and will only love the person who feeds her :D:p Don't anthromorphise ;)

If it's any consolation, boy is trying it on. Flew out of the dressage arena at a little ODE on Sunday, at C, scattering judge, writer, table and chairs, photographer and spectators :o This was not planned and half way through test. He then did it again, I stopped him and he went up. I completely wimped out and refused to canter after that & did walk & trot.

Put my brave pants back on after a stern talking to and went XC (don't get excited it was under 2'....) although he jumped beautifully, we went through the finish and he went sharp right to his stable mate and I carried on straight...... SJ was fine......

Oh dear - not his finest day really. Am I alone in loving horses with a bit of character? Still good sj round a plus. Somehow I can't imagine Bree at a ODE. No actually I can, and it isn't pretty. ;)

You are quite right that she loves anyone with food. Hubby said she was happily letting him scratch her under the chin and then basically shoved him out of the way when the hayledge started doing the rounds.

I am also putting my brave pants on and going into work today. Only in one day and then have Friday and weekend off. I have meeting with new team leader and letters that really need to go out. Am fine if I sit still - will need to stifle the scream every time I stand or sit though. Note to our younger readers - if you get a job as a health professional you will spend your life going into work in pain/not quite well because people rely on you.

Hope you feel better soon and head isn't too sore. Concussion is one of the worst pains I've felt. Nope, I love a horse with a character, although today I'm wondering why?

I'm aiming to get back on tonight for a small walk, before my confidence goes (as I took a tumble last night) and then will be lunging for next couple of days.

I wish I could have got straight back on. But good news is that my knee that I thought would cause real problems has started to improve. Hip still sore but that's easier to deal with.

Just thought I'd update this. Healing up and been back in the saddle today - although only in the school for a walk and trot. As predicted the slight tendon tear in the knee is going to cause me most problems. Really need a little more time off but her new saddle is being fitted on Tuesday and didn't want that to be my first time back in the saddle.

Bree has been getting regular work and so is going very well in the school.

Good news :). You can buy knee supports so maybe that will help a bit otherwise use it as an opportunity to ride with soft knees..whatever they are.

Thanks - I've got a tendon strap which helps a lot, but mostly it's a case of waiting for it to heal. At least I didn't break anything - that thread about broken collar bones has made me grateful that I wore the body protector. Now have some really naff shoulder protectors as well.

I absolutely hated the hat I landed on, but I've ended up buying the same one again because it fits well and certainly saved my head. Had it fitted again.

Agree - been off for far too long already. Did some join up in the round pen yesterday so she didn't take today as an opportunity to try to reestablish who was boss. But she was absolutely fine.

I can beat you. I came off introducing baby to trotting poles much to my audiences amusement. I have still not lived it down! Revenge however will be sweet as poles are now fine. Strange fillers are the current bête noir so might put the person who laughed the most on board!

Sorry to hear you had such a nasty fall. Try to think of it that these things happen with babies. Hopefully with training and time they grow out of it. Mine panics with new things and then the next time is so laid back it's almost unbelievable.
