And my curse continues, new mare issues

Yes, all done at home under standing sedation.

I am beyond disappointed with the original EDT. He was a long time member of the BAEDT so had all the qualifications and insurances etc, but has allowed his membership to lapse, so there is no professional body to report him to.
I personally wouldn’t ever use an EDT again! We had an issue with one who was insistent our horse needed surgery for a removal, referred us to the specialist etc but I wasn’t convinced as he seemed fine so I got my vet to have a look under sedation…yeah he didn’t have an issue at all! 5 years later he’s still going strong with zero issues or need for a removal! She then went on to message me after we had decided not to do the extraction and said what a mistake I was making etc…I’m convinced she would have got some ££££ had we gone ahead and was just miffed she was losing out.

I did look into reporting her to her body but basically it was very wishy washy and it looked like there was absolutely nothing they would do in any case.

Vets all the way now! At least you have some recourse if you want to report them!

I agree that it is very much down to the individual.

My horses' teeth are done my my vet, who is an equine vet but also has been to America to specialise in dentistry. I mainly have him as he is known as 'the horse whisperer' as they don't need sedation when he does them. Mine never did need sedation, but it was indicative to me that he was a good horse handler as well as good vet. That has been handy when he got an eye infection and for such as colic. All easily treated by someone who can handle horses and help them feel good about it.

I despair of some vets who don't seem to be good at handling the beasts, even if they do know all of the info.

A vet I know was a useless vet, sent away from several yards for various mistakes, banned from ours after some nasty mistakes making horses suffer. In the end, she was 'let go' from the practice she worked for as she was losing them customers. She now has a shiny new job, self employed as a dentist. She has a glossy website, can do sedation, but... I have been informed that she is as accident prove with teeth as she was with other vet things! She exploded a friend's horse's tongue when it was sedated and she hand rasped it!

So, I go for the person, preferably also well qualified!
