And so the horse search begins.

Went reasonably well. Met the member of staff who is coming out with me tomorrow and I feel that he understands what I am asking which is basically "can we turn this mare into a lovely riding horse for me?". He was polite about my riding and understands I need to ride regularly to really get better.

Also met YO which was a little nerve wracking because she's an assertive lady who clearly knows what she wants. But you can tell she'll run a tight ship and cares about the quality of service provided. She's had a bad experience buying in he past and clearly has met some very silly people buying horses - so I didn't mind the lecture on horse buying. :o

Fingers crossed for me and dream horse tomorrow.

OK it's now tomorrow so there needs to be some serious distracting of me until later. Although I think it may have to be garden centre as my chinchillas are out of the posh American timothy hay the spoilt little rotters eat and I need a rose trellis to cover the wall of my neighbours new conservatory (which is apparently what I should be spending the money from my maturing savings plan on).

Later there may be photos - or a disappointed me looking for another horse to try.

Good luck Paula. The only piece of advice I will give you as someone who returned to riding from a long break is remember what you set out to find and don't compromise too much from that list. I did that 3 times as I got fed up waiting for the right horse to come along and whilst I learned a lot now I have the 'right' horse I realise what I have missed out out on for the last 5 years trying to make the wrong horses right!

Sounds like you are doing everything right though so I hope today goes well x

It's certainly difficult. I know that I shouldn't go for the first horse I see - but she is just as likely to be suitable as the 10th or 20th, particularly as I haven't compromised yet on what I really want, as opposed to what I'm told I should want.

I got told I should have an ex riding school pony by a couple of people. They just don't suit my style of riding at all.
