X-rays this morning showed very clean fractures to very bottom bit of splint bone (the really narrow spindly bit). 2 nice floating bits that will mostly likely require surgery to remove as they have very little blood supply and the position of the bits makes it look highly unlikely it will heal. Injury is 4 weeks old and no sign of healing so surgery looks likely option.
Vet is consulting with the vet that would do the surgery and surgery if they go ahead will be either the end of this week or end of next week (they do non emergency surgery Weds-Fri). She's in with a pressure type bandage for now to help the swelling.
Am fortunate to be with a very good local equine vets with its own hospital so she will only need to go a short way away and I know several horses who've had the same injury and know the prognosis (assuming the suspensory is unaffected) in very good and there are just the usual risks of surgery and infection. But still an enormous worry
