And the idiot said 'riding him is cruel, he should be free...'

No picture to add I'm afraid as am at work but it's a shame you didn't ask her to expand -ie Free, how exactly? Free to sit in fields getting fat until they're a few months old and then go to slaughter like cows, pigs and sheep etc? Free to roam around the countryside until there are too many horses breeding (ie like dartmoors/welsh hill ponies etc now) so they end up being herded up, terrified of people, and taken to sales rings where they are sold for a pittance to end up at a slaughterhouse again? Or alternatively free like the horses in Oz so they are overrun and the government say they need to be culled? Maybe she wanted them to be 'free' like deer so people can then go out and shoot them for sport?!

I could go on - some people should really just think before they open their mouths!! Hmm, wonder if I should let my dogs loose too as surely that's cruel to keep them in a house or walk them on a lead..........?!!!

Oh my horse hates everything too, I'm a really cruel person!

He hates hacking...!

Ha, the nut woman was probably the biggest joke in the world, Liz Jones. She had a ridiculous "article" - I use the term loosely, in the DM last week about how a hypnotist had cured her of her fear of riding after her ex-racehorse bucked her off. Curiously this is the same loopy fruit who said that riding horses was cruel in the radio programme Womans' Hour a few months ago. She is so bizarre and contradicts herself so frequently and blatently, that I do wonder if she would be better off in a secure ward for a while. A nice LONG while.

God that Liz Jones article was ridiculous! She was posing on the back of a horse wearing a back protector (fair enough) but no hat! What's the point! Anyway the horse in the picture definitely didn't look like he had an ounce of tb in him (he did look v sweet though). Stupid Liz and her stupid hair.

Arion after a jumping lesson over 80cm - previously we hadnt jumped for over a year as I lost all my confidence - I like to think he was pleasantly surprised that day :D I know I sure was :D

How nasty am I, holding on for dear life as my pony insisted she jump the fire-breathing jump

Clearly hates to go jumping, as we go flying round with iffy brakes:

This sums her up:

My horse clearly hates
Mock hunting (can't see it but he has his ears pricked and his tongue over the bit and he is bogging off with me!)

ONE HUNDRED PER CENT agree with all of this. And to make it worse, she's paid an absolute fortune to write that fatuous load of tripe. Now that does make me really mad....

Ooooh - you cruel, cruel people, forcing those poor horses to do things they obviously HATE! TFC could remove all those dreadful photos......

;-D ;-D

PS Off to Burghley tomorrow - can't wait! Aaah but, hang on....those horses could be forced to jump fences innit...................

A pointless post but here you go:

I had a ranting witch of a weirdo woman yell this ^ to me whilst I hacked past her car today. Well, apart from the fact that my horse just loves his work, the variety, getting out and about, and human bond he has with his rider, I thought of the picture below which was taken as he'd finished his xc at Firle BE last weekend, and thought 'if that's not a happy horse who loves his job I don't know what it!!' :D

So I thought I'd ask if any of you have pictures which sum up how happy your horse is with whatever their role in life is?

What a cracking photo and he looks very happy with his work! I'm a Sussex lass and that is most bizarre to shout that out?? Mind you there are some peculiar ones about! I was going to try and come and watch Firle last week but had a mad busy one.

Gosh, you evil people, forcing these poor horses to do work! How evil :D

Here's Tont, clearly hating being forced to jump :D

I do think that horses mostly enjoy having something to do, but they also enjoy having nothing to do. A bit like us really.

My OH believes that we never own an animal, that they should not be bought and sold like property. He does not even like animals that much, (as in he does not own a pet, spends no time with them, but does not like to see an animal suffer). I actually agree with him on this.

We take a lot for granted assuming we can ever own something that has a mind, body & spirit of its own. It should be a partnership, a joint venture, agreement, the money is not relevant ( the horse is olivious to what was paid for it).

Riding in itself is not cruel, but a lot of people are cruel, when they impose their expectations (often unrealistic) on their horses.

My mare loves to ride, but her favorite thing is to be a mom and she also loves to show off. I was snapping up a bunch of photos of her at the breed demo at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center at the Region 1 Andalusian Championship and she totally hammed it up! lol She would perk her ears at people taking her picture and this little girl came over to take a photo next to Victoria, but she didn't stand all that close. So, I guess Victoria thought that that wasn't a very good photo so she side passed a step and then swiveled her hip around so that the mom had a great side shot of Victoria standing next to her daughter and then she stuck her head up proud and perked her ears for the camera! I laughed and the girl's mom thought that that was just hilarious!

As far as jumping goes, Victoria will jump if I ask her to, but with little gusto and has the most annoyed look on her face! lol If I keep asking her to jump then she will eventually scoot around the jump! Victoria has never understood the point of wasting so much energy to jump an obstacle when you can clearly go around it! haha

As far as a horse rather being in the wild... I have a friend with Mustangs. There was a story that she told me of how she was at her ranch in Nevada (borders Utah) and they were rather close to the area that this mare of hers (riding horse now) had been caught off of. Well, the mare leapt the fence and made a flat run for freedom, my friend thought, "Guess we will never see her again!" A few hours later the mare was back in time for dinner with her head down wanting to be let back into the corral! LOL No horse wants to constantly have to worry about when they will eat enough or find water when they are thirsty or find shelter when the weather is rough. Clearly, this former wild horse CHOSE to be with her human family even though she was free in an area that she knew. People who say that a horse would rather be in the wild and rough it out really have no clue!

A very unhappy Levi

Although he does seem to want to eat her.

This should be banned though, it is really cruel an any one doing this should be reported....

Non horsey , over weight daddies having to interact with ponies :D
