I have recently sold my ex race horse as we never particularly gelled and after two years I realised she just wasn't the horse for me.

So now the search begins for my next horse! And as you can probably guess, when I wasn't seriously looking there were loads of horses which appeared to fit the bill, now there are barely any! It's not that I have an unreasonable budget either.

Please give me hope HHO'ers that I will find something else soon!!

No wise words on the shopping but really congratulations on selling the horse. It takes courage to end something that isn't working sometimes and both horse and rider can end up happier. Onwards and upwards!

So often when you are just browsing there appear to be loads of horses but when you really start looking and ruling out ones that don't tick enough boxes there can be very few out there that are even worth a call, there will be one for you it is just a case of being patient until it turns up.

You may well be right be positive. I feel I'm possibly looking going into the wrong time of year! Fingers crossed. I am being quite picky as I want to make sure my next horse is the right horse for me.

I don't think time of year makes much difference it is the fact you are now looking seriously and being picky shows how little there actually is out there despite hundreds of adverts, this time of year is often a good time to buy as there will be some coming onto the market due to school/ uni as well as nice young horses people have been bringing on over the summer, although it does depend what you are looking for.

Thanks be positive! Looking for something between 15.2-16hh, 4 - 8 year old, gelding, something which is sane and sensible and able to cope with a reduced work load during winter months (riding at weekends). Basic schooling, good to hack alone and in company. Don't mind having to work on the schooling as long as there's the potential there. Again with jumping as long as willing to jump a small course then I can work on that. Doesn't fizz up when others are acting like plonkers out and about. And my budget is around 4k. Temperament and train-ability is what I'm really looking for this time.

Hopefully something comes up.

Lucy Dixon has/had a really useful little dun Connie X TB in to sell might be worth seeing if he is still there. I think he has done a couple of 90's, if I recall so he might be well over budget but worth an ask

Good luck! I've recently been searching and it's such a minefield, horses a hand (if not 2!!) under advertised height and a fair few rather dodgy sellers later I have now paid deposit subject to vet. Think it was the fifth horse I viewed and I count myself lucky. A little bit of me also has the right time, right place, right horse attitude :)
