And this is 'entertainment'. How so?

Hi Kate, hope you're well and happy hun :)

I have seen this video on an animal rights page. Not sure if it's the same one but the one I saw they were training the poor things, and you could see the fear in their body language all the way! They so badly wanted to turn back and go back down the ramp, but knew they would be beaten if they did, it was heartbreaking to see them stopping to turn and then turning back, and this going on for ages, till they finally jump :( Terrible, yet the people watching seem to think it's 'cool' and they made comments such as "If they didn't want to do it, they wouldn't" They only do it because it's the only way to avoid a beating :(

Sick form of entertainment, same as circuses, barbaric and outdated.

*beams* Hello Sarah! I'm well, thanks and hope you are too...x

But yes, I did wonder what sort of 'persuasion' was used to make an animal as smart as a mule think that launching off into space and probable death was better than what lay behind... :(

Thats awful .. dont you just feel like pushing the owner off the same board into 6 " of water and shout jump jump jump....makes my blood boil.:mad::mad:
The people who watch are just as bad, have they no idea of cruelty.
Sorry about rant, going to have another malibu and coke............

Am I imagining it but wasnt there a back page horse and hound picture months ago of some famous diving horses from ?1930/40? they had bareback riders too.
Im sure I remember them saying how much the horses enjoyed it

What is the bloody world coming too?

Flying now diving!

Any yet they are allowed to get away with it?

The horse didn't know what to do with its self ffs!

poor little mule, that's awful. They used to do that in victorian times in this country but it was banned.
The other pictures were good tho, loved the one of the hedgehog with bandaged legs and the german shepherd biting a water balloon :)

Cant believe I even watched the video, it was making me angry and upset just at the thought of people thinking it is right to force an animal off a 22ft platform into water. The mule looked scared *****less

I haven't seen any of the videos of the animals being trained for this, so I can't comment on that - it would of course be terrible if they are scared into doing it - but the photos don't really show a terrified animal. The mule's diving position suggests he knows exactly what is coming up - water - as he would be flailing wildly in the air if he thought he was about to hit the ground. Can't see why animals can't be taught to dive in the same way they are taught to do all sorts of things, with no welfare implications.

I don't have a problem with diving horses, as you've seen it in films etc and it is something possible to train

However surely 6ft is not deep enough? You wouldn't catch human divers going into water that shallow. Usually diving pools are at least 16ft deep

So I do think there ought to be rules on what is safe and water depth is one of them!

Its all just a little wierd really. As above i suppose that horses/mules can be trained, but im not sure that i'd want to watch them do that.
