Put them both on grass livery over the winter, look into getting a sharer to help with costs and jobs in exchange for riding.

Horses are stressful things!

You say your parents have a farm, is there no little spare field you could keep them in? Have you had a serious chat to your parents? Perhaps one of them would like hacking Buddy?

Also, this whole sleeping and eating malarkey, it isn't as important as people think. Four hours sleep will do fine, and we really only need to eat once a day. Reduced section at Tesco always handy.

Plus when you are at the yard, you aren't using electricity or central heating at home! So really horses save you money there. Lots of layered clothing again helps cut the costs of heating your home. Deep littering is probably not likely to be socially acceptable.

I am guessing that despite it being winter, you won't want to part with your fridge freezer. Still, selling the TV is always an option, and you may find that a slow cooker and mini table top grill will suffice for cooking, far cheaper than running an oven! Kettles eat electricity, again the slow cooker is your friend here.

As to maintaining a social life, that's what HHO is for! :D

If the mare is fit and well why not try find her a loan home instead. Just out of curiosity why do they want you to take her back.
I'm glad she is ok :-)

Sorry I'm of now practical help buddy's mummy but I did love your post "where to?" That's exactly how my dad would have put it and left me in no doubt about where you come from! Good luck with solving your equine problems.

Why do they want to give her back free? Hanovarians hold good money dont they? Saying that im finding it imposible to loan/sell my nags aswell at the moment. In your situation i would find grass livery or ask OH to beg his parents! Good luck!
