andalusian mane treatment??

Right, I'm confused. I have a PRE andalusian and have had him for 18 months. I was told to plait his mane (in lots of plaits) to keep it from breaking. However, I was told the other day by our yard manager that a visitor saw my horse and told her to tell me that it should be left down and def NOT plaited!!!!

What do other iberian owners do????? I show him, so need to keep the mane full as I can!!

I plait and put my traddies mane in mane bags. Uncertainly helped it grow to the beautiful length that it is.

i too have a PRE, but a mare with a full mane unusually, i have to say she wears a rambo hoody almost all year, she's suseptable to horse fly bites / black flies eating her (they look like normal black flies but they literally eat her skin :O ! ) as she has the rug on 24/7 especially when out i dont do anything with her mane but do use lots of mane and tail conditioner, have tried canter coat gloss, cowbow magic detangler etc and they do help, the other thing is dont brush it too often, it pulls too many hairs out.

i wouldnt plait too much as plaiting, especially tight ones, can actually make the hair fall out ! i used to plait my WB the night before a show and by morning once nearly half of it had just pulled out at the roots :O !!

have you tried the forum on the BAPSH website? there are some very knowledgable people of there
