Andrew Gould - laughing all the way to the bank?

Well its lucky he's got the money coming in from her horses because I've heard from a few people that they've stopped training with him, or stopped their daughters going to him for lessons, because of his association with Katie Price........

(not saying anything either way, just pointing out).

Gosh how utterly random! When you consider how some top riders treat their horses (and how rude they can be to their clients), I have to confess I did not think associating with KP would stop people training with someone they genuinely thought was good. Maybe I am very naieve, but I can think of lots of people I wouldn't train with for various reasons, and the only time it is to do with who else they train is when I don't like the trainee's riding style/horse management and am suspicious it has come from the trainer.

All the monthly clinics I have run with him teaching have been full, and most with a wait list, so I wouldnt say his popularity as a good teacher is dwindling too much. Can understand after watching the KP prog people wouldnt want to be fighting through the paps to get into his yard, but aside from that it doesnt affect how he teaches others or his credibility as an instructor.

Andrew is a sweetie and a bit of a local celeb (and hunk obv...lol).
I really like him and his wife Polly - I hear all the time how well he is doing because his young horses keep beating everyone at the local Aff. shows - much to the annoyance of most dressage peps on my yard - ha ha.
He works really really hard (like many prof. horsemen/women) teaching, training and competing round here. Many people don't know who he regularily trains (well lets be honest their not all media hungry celebs like one of his clients) but he has a lot of successful stories under his belt training some of our countries leading Eventers (feel free to do your homework). And Polly was telling me he is now the head coach for the Scottish Dressage Region!

Ok so, maybe he needs to calm it on the Drag and Gossip mags, but if the guy didn't know his stuff in the dressage I don't think he would have been recommended to KP as a trainer.

Can I also take this opportunity to point out that my lessons with Andrew aren't as expensive as they may seem - I say this just in case my OH is looking on the forum during his lunch - eek!

LHS - agreed with your comments on the JW letter topic on the other thread.

Bet she doesn't get down the yard and muck out her horse, clean tack or hose mud off her boots!

Neither do most pro riders. Neither would I if I could afford to pay someone else to do so.

Well, I think DIY yards are a very British thing, here in Germany nobody mucks out (unless they have horses at home obviously)... all yards are full or training liveries, and for training livery (which includes daily lessons etc.) £1000 per horse seems very reasonable.

If she really has 7 horses with AG, then I'd be surprised at how little she manages to spend every month!

FrodoB - you're right, DIY livery is very much a UK thing (as is getting up at 5am to see/ride your horsebefore work every morning). Not done very often in Ireland and most Irish yards dont offer DIY. I would still say £1000 training livery is fairly expensive in general but not i suppose if you are based with one of the top riders or trainers in the country.

I was thinking the same thing... when I went to Andrew's last year I thought the full livery price he quoted me was very reasonable, especially since it included exercise OR a lesson on the horse every day. Not many full livery places offer that, lessons are extra. We didn't go there in the end as it was a little too far from me.
