ane elses horses putting on weight?

Mine too. Because the weather has been so awful I’ve upped their hay, which they obviously don’t need, but think they do. Grass is still growing and green here.

Mine is definitely still putting the beef on, but being off games and with suspected ulcers I'm loath to restrict forage and can't do much to burn the calories. I'm just hoping for some colder weather to slow down the grass (or ideally a return to soundness, but cold weather seem more likely!)

Mine has stayed trim (for her) all summer but I had to move onto this year's hay - combined with the flush of grass that's just come through and she's ballooned. I was hoping to either have her out in the day (instead of coralled) by now but it's not happening. So looking forwards to not carting soaked hay and water every day or having to have her muzzled any more!

Yep, always a challenge with my boy who lives off fresh air. Trying to get the right balance of feed and energy. He's on oats but I've reduced his hard feed as he's getting a bit porky. Hoping a bit of hunting might help him lose the belly!

Yes, thankfully! It's a struggle to keep weight on him, so it's nice to see him filled out. I think him having a filling a few months ago really helped, because he's been picking up weight (and muscle) ever since.

My pony went on a serious diet after moving to a yard where he could be on bare grazing. He looks trim now but the weigh tape says he’s put 10kg on in the last 4 weeks. I’m hoping some of that is his winter pyjamas bulking him out!

Yes! Thank goodness. She's a tb though so you can understand why I am pleased. I wouldn't say it's the grass though as ours isn't so good at this time of year. Certainly thinking it's her feed and the fact she is becoming more muscled. In fact, just the other day I had to say goodbye to her lovely Prolite girth as at 28" it was officially too small for her. Now got a 30" elasticated girth on. Funnily, though, she doesn't look fat?

I know plenty though who are still worrying about weight.

Mine too.
Although, the staff at the yard used a weight tape before worming and according to that he's lost 230 kilos (lol - don't think the tape had a draft horse setting). Don't worry, I noticed and he got a full dose of wormer.

Yup. I was having to up his feed due to all the work he was doing and he looked amazing. The last month or so I've been ill and its all been very on and off and hes looking decidedly chubby :(

Mines 30kg less than this time last year, combination of restricted grazing and oat straw chaff.

He goes like a yeti this time of year coat wise so it’s hard to tell by looking I find so he’s weigh taped weekly and I check for fat pads weekly xx

The grass is pretty mental at the moment. Ours went onto winter grazing a few weeks ago and the summer grazing, which was looking bare and muddy, has more or less fully recovered already! Both mine are looking well, The Beast is looking slightly too well but a hunter clip and a couple of good long hacks seems to have halted the expansion.

Yes! The thoroughbred is loving it and looks really well, the two fatties are STILL muzzled at grass and on soaked-into-oblivion hay at night. It's lovely that they can be out naked (fully clipped!) in the day to have a good roll, but I'll be glad when the cold weather comes and the grass stops. I can't recall muzzling this late into the year before.

Yep! My TB was in a really poor condition when I bought him, and it's only the past month that he's really started to fill out and lose his hat-rack build. Moving away from a super stressy mare in the field has helped, as has all this grass and a bit of extra feed. V chuffed with how he's looking going into winter.

Yes two sports horses fat as you like although you would think I'm starving them to death because I keep them off the middle paddock each night! As of next week the clocks change so no more mid week riding and the shoes come off for a winter break so limited hacking (we will still go out if weather is nice, they wont crumble and die without shoes!!)

Saving on my feed bills and I've not even had my hay delivered yet and doubt I'll be feeding hay till late December at this rate!

Yup, ours are all still out 24/7 showing no signs of being hungry and grass is still ankle high across most of the field. Hoping they'll have at least another 4 weeks out before having to come in overnight (we're not allowed to put hay in field) even if that means trudging down to the bottom fields (5 mins down a steep hill) in pitch black once the clocks go back. Better check the head torch batteries!

Yep, mine was escaping his muzzle and I took my eye off the ball....... Hot feet, pulses and footy :'( :'( Anglo Arab who is greedier than any horse i've ever known
