Angry and sad..

I was driving home from work tonight and along one of the back roads home there is a large gypsy site.
And what did I see? An approximately 9month old foal pulling a cart at speed in rush hour, the poor thing looked so worried, but just did as it was told, I could see the poor thing looking terrified, makes me sick.
Why oh why do they have to do this to them so young. I have seen a few on this same stretch, but this was the youngest I have seen. They have been reported over and over and nothing changes, why do they think it is right to do this to a baby, I just don't understand.

Sorry, had to vent, was so angry to see that :(
 
Last weekend I was a bit shocked to say the least when I rounded a roundabout behind a fat guy on a cart doing Le Trot, and it became apparent he was going up and down a long busy road with a roundabout at each end, don't ask me how many times he'd been round but there was about 2 miles between the roundabouts.

The speed was in excess of 30mph on hard tarmac relentlessly with no let up in the pace. Traffic was stacking up behind, and there was someone with a trailer following the horse who kept moving out into the middle of the road to stop people overtaking, which didn't necessarily work, and cars and motorbikes were constantly passing; the horse had no blinkers. What's more it didn't look completely sound, and definitely not happy.

I don't know if they were gypsies but they were acting like they had no respect for anyone or their poor horse.

That sounds awful, so sad that some horrid people out there think it is ok to treat horses like that,they do not deserve them
 
That is so awful! Sadly it's one law for them one for the rest of us. The police and other authorities are terrified of them so there is little to be done unfortunately. We have a few sites near us so I also see this sort of thing going on too, it's heartbreaking!

On a similar note have you ever noticed how awful owners who trot back into the yard hose off an exhausted horse in the cold feed it and leave never get colicky horses or lame ones?
 
the authorities are definitely unwilling to intervene, same as they dont with the same people when wires are stretched across the road next to their (council run!) site, people and horses are shot at with airguns and catapults and rural lanes become more fly tip than lane. They even nicked the CCTV camera the council put up.....

OH intervened when a yearling/2yo was being beaten about the head by one of these unspeakable characters at our old place for daring to break into a canter when pulling the trap fell onto his back onto the road but OH duly received a black eye for his trouble :-((((

The rolling roadblock thing was quite common, it was just routine on the dual carriageway.

Have no problem with different cultures but do have a problem with animal cruelty and flagrant law breaking.

Yes its very sad, its amazing how resilient they are given the way some people treat their horses, sad that people treat them like they are nothing :(

Your poor OH, thats the sad thing, some of them are a law unto themselves, it was so sad, I could see the terror in this foals eyes, just so sad
 
oh should add that fire servicer also had to release driving horse of theirs from the drain grid cover, as his hoof was so small (because he was so YOUNG) that it went right down into it :-O
But not a whisper in the press coverage that maybe it was a bit odd that a horses hoof would fit down there! YO had to recently witness one of the animals being put down by vet for one of the welfare orgs, guess that would end up in court if the horses werent always someones cousins (who strangely had the same name, passports and chips wont help with that one!)...
 
That's where I was thinking about... I'm not there for a while now so don't have to potentially see them as I always find it both disgusting and upsetting.
 
I saw something similar when I was hacking home from a RC show once. I phoned the RSPCA, there and then, spent aaaages on the phone to them........ Of course all they did was use my contact details to try and sell me a credit card!
 
Unfortunately there is no law saying what age a horse can be ridden or driven.
I have a friend who has tried in vain to change things but all she gets is its because of the racing industry and the age they race.
These poor foals don't have much of a future.

Yes I think it is, its quite near the motorway, see it all the time, today really was the worst I had seen age wise, could have been its first time out, i got that impression, it was so overwhelmed, worst part was, there was a police car one car behind, no doubt they completely ignored it! :mad:
 
This makes me so bloody furious and sickens me to think people can be so cruel and yet 'our' system can do nothing about it. I hate thes types, they really do what they want when they want and animals are nothing more to them then property.. Ha if that actually - I don't suppose they p*ss in their own bed like they f%%k up their own animals.. GRRR I am so mad now - moreso as there is nothing we can do.

It has really upset me thinking about that poor foal who must of been scared out of it poor mind.

Exactly, my mare has had 6 babies and I could never imagine them having to had gone through that. Where I keep my mare now there is a mare with a foal of 8/9months old and i just cannot imagine her being in that situation, its so sad
