Our tack rooms were broken into last night and they got 8 saddles, just want to rant really as it makes my blood boil.
My saddle wasnt taken as its in a different tack room, but Im still bringing it home tonight.

I HATE THIEVES AND STINKIN PIKEYS!!!!

And our yard is in Northants / Bucks borders, so beware!

Im sorry for the people who have lost their tack but please, do not use the word 'pikeys' so loosely. How do you know it was the 'pikeys'?. It may well have been the 'stinking Northamptonites' or the'bastard Buckites'? Break ins(like this) are usually set up from the inside so dont go blaming someone till you have the proof. I get upset when I see such racism-specially in the young.

that wasn't racism - it was predjudice

'pikeys' are not a race

I don't like it when people automatically shout racism inappropriately - the word 'pikeys' is a derogatory term (or at least is mostly construed as one).

Aye - A pikey is slang for an irish person just incase you may have thought its something else - some people thing pikey is referring to gypsies and travellers and although closley linked - is referring to nationality only

I am sure she hasnt meant to be racist tho

I can see why you are annoyed at the break in - at least you still have your saddle!

pikey
Pikey is a pejorative slang term used in the United Kingdom. The term, a contraction of the word "turnpike", was originally used to denote Irish Travellers,
(from oxford dictionary)

I quite agree with u.....as for not pointing the finger at "pikey's" 9 times out of 10 it is them who do the breakins, ship the goods of to ireland and sell them on over there. Thats why its so easy to blame them. Its happened to alot of yards near ours and they have tried to get in ours but luckily they were un-sucessful. They had been spotted and they were gypsie's pikey's.

OMG - feel sorry for those who have lost tack at your yard
mad.gif

I have to say we have mini crime sprees at yards in our area every time pikeys are near by - coincidence

I was always told the word pikey could be used for travellers and I dont mean the genuine old fashion style travellers, I mean the "others"

I don't blame you for being so angry and for calling the thieving b**t**ds whatever you want to!!!.The thing is the 'travellers' round here aren't real gypsies so you can't call them such - they are not even travellers cos they have a permanent site - they are just a band of criminals who make other people's life hell. I daren't ride near them as I will be called names and verbally abused.
I don't blame anyone for calling them pikeys, b**t**ds, or foulmouth c**ts!

Oh blow me down-I used the term incorrectly!!!!

I do beg your pardon Hippyned.

sorry, its just that the word racist is thrown about so much in our society these days it can get very wearing.

I would be very hurt & upset if anything of mine was nicked, all sympathies to you moonwalker.

I know someone that had his car stolen by gypsies and it had his 2 dogs in the back.
Yes it was the Gypsies, yes it was confirmed.
It's not until you've been stung by them that your views change.
I feel very strongly about the theiving b......
They attempted to kill someone else I know because he saw them driving HIS Landrover. The outcome was very messy.
I would never give a gypsie the benfit of the doubt.

As I am Scots/Irish I can now ask for an apology from the poster and all those who use the term 'pikey' to cover the social mishaps and dross. When does school go back? A general question, not pointed at anyone

pikeys is 'common parlance' if you like - the same as 'WAGs' will eventually appear in some dictionary or other and be acceptable on the scrabble board !!

if you have good tack tbh I'd never ever leave it at a yard now - only safe place is to take it home

apart from anything else the police seem to take house break-ins (marginally) more seriously than farm/stable crime - probably because houses are people's 'homes' and stables - i.e. the site of the breakin - isn't a residentially used part of the building - so it goes in another (minor) part of the statistics

I'd bank on the fact that your YO will get a crime ref. no. for insurance, be asked if any of the stolen items were marked/photographed/identifiable, be lucky if a SOCO turns up as the criminals are always wearing gloves so no fingerprints to obtain and told that they should consider increasing their security !!

Well, whatever they are called as a group, whenever they were near me (dumping rubbish and generally causing problems), tack used to go missing + rugs from horses backs and any tools they could lay their mits on. Once they moved off the problem vanished. Perhaps there was a local criminal fraternity who only sprang into action when the 'travellers' pirched up... but somehow I think thir lack or morals would have led them to go on a thieving spree more often!

they want to have a permanent 'traveller' site put up on the outskirts of my town.

I dread that ever happening. There is one of these sites in Peterborough and the car dealership next door has to pay them money not to vandalise their cars!

I may be predjudiced against them, but no smoke without fire and all that.

having had my car stolen and set on fire, knowing who did it as they were ringing us, i can tell you from awful experience (lost £6000) that the police actually are not interested in anything, but alas we also have troubles round here and im am constantly quaking in my boots about my irish cob going missing it, wake up in cold sweats thinking about it and wish i hadnt bought a irish cob and something less "obvious" for riding out on, or at least not so "sought after"....and i dont mean that my horse is better than anyone elses horse, just that it seems to be a nasty spate at the moment.

(that was a joke...before I get attacked!)

Sorry to hear about the tack, poor people who got stuff stolen

We have a local group of travellers, that have had a pemanent site for many many years, who have been caught by the Police with 50+ rugs in their van, lots with different Postcodes etc, and the Police just let them go. We also get regular visits from a bad crowd of irish travellers - whatever you call them - and when they arrive everybody bolts everything down. They have shown up on the land opposite us again today

The thieving sh*ts that have a site near us, stole a friend's horse lorry then rang him and offered it back to him for £6,000! The police said they couldn't do anything as the call was traced to a public phone box and there was no evidence that it was the 'travellers' (even though the phone box is very near the traveller's site and the man spoke in an irish accent).

I agree...would it be preferrable to call them people in flash caravans who dont pay tax and leave rubbish whereever they go....? hmm.. Not racist...just get fed up of spongers who have no respect for others!!!

When i bought Gypsy from gypsies, sorry a mouthful, the man said to me if i nicked 3 good horses like her, i could have her for nothing. I know she isnt stolen i known where the horse has come from, from 6 months she was past from dealer to dealer, then to the gypsies, they broke her but were very harsh on her.

God love her, shes probably expecting to be shipped to a new home soon.
