Angry mare!!

Thanks for all your posts :)

I dont have time to reply to all individually but from the few who thought I was coming accross as aggressive in my response - You have taken my posts the wrong way! Terri, sorry I have read your post the wrong was as others have done mine. I appreciate your comments.

Its not as easy as just feeding her when others are fed as that would mean other liveries having to feed my horse which is just not practical on any level. Also, the set up of our yard means that horses will be tied up outside her stable.

perhaps I should put a big :D on every post to show that I am not the one whos angry mare! hehe :D

ps. Ive just re read my posts and not really sure why anyone would find that aggressive? factual yes, angry no....

Maybe some HHOers need to toughen up! ;)

There are one or two things I am struggling to understand. You say it is not a DIY yard?

This is a bad management situation and is not your mare's fault. You say she has hay but then say that she is restricted, so is it possible she has finished her ration by the time the others are being fed or tied up outside? If yes, then something needs to be done to address the situation. Mixing her hay with straw and double/tripple netting for example, so she has twice as much volume to get through and it takes her longer.

If you are sure she does have some left, then could you not give her only a tiny bit when you leave her and leave the rest of her ration in a net outside for whoever is feeeding the horses next to her to give her.

If all these things have been tried, then I really don't see an issue with her having an extra handful of hay when the others are being fed. Far better than her developing stress induced ulcers or injuring herself. It is just normal behaviour for all horses to want to be fed at the same time as others. I would never have it any other way on a yard, whether it is DIY or full livery.

I think you have come across a bit aggressive as it appeared you wanted a means to deal with the effect of the problem rather than looking to prevent it happening. And we are all guilty sometimes that without any tone of voice behind what we say, the written words can come across not as they were intended.
