Well a few may remember a while back i was having trouble with someone on my yard feeding my horse god knows what & lots of haylage whilst i wasnt there, unbeknown to me so whilst i thought she was getting the correct amount turns out she was getting far too much.

So as suggested i spoke to EVERYONE at the yard and put a notice on her door ( Although i knew Exactly who it was )

Since then i have found out my mares Pregnant and is about due now.

I have started checking on her again later on and believe it or not, once again i am finding VERY large amounts of haylage in her bed, her door not locked as i lock it, and some sort of hard feed on her floor.
Im so angry right now, i cant speak to the yard owner as some days he doesnt even know who i am!
Would you move yards? the thing is the yard is perfect for me except One person spoiling it :( If i were to move it would have to be to somewhere with no facilities as all the yards on par with mine are Super expensive & not forgetting my mare is heavily pregnant :(:(

I know im been dramatic but im so upset

That sounds very stressful, I take it the pregnancy was a complete surprise?

Where in the country are you? Could you possibly send her away to a stud to foal at grass livery?

I would have serious, serious words with the person as you have tried the nice and polite approach.
Be assertive :)

Make all aware that you are feeling pretty angry about it and hopefully it will work.

Also tell YO and YM.

After, if all else fails, yes i would move.

Im sorry its making you miserable, hope it all works out xx

just a thought but how about buying something like a fake security camera. Ask your YO if you can fix it up in the stable and then tell all the liveries that it is to monitor your mare because she is pregnant. Obviously dont let on it's a fake, you can say it is wireless etc and you can monitor it from your pc at home.
I am sure the fear of being caught on camera will stop your mystery feeder!

I don't think your being dramatic! I would be beyond furious if someone was feeding my pregnant mare! You need to speak to either your YO or the person feeding (if your brave enough). I wouldn't want to move a mare close to foaling. Maybe say to YO that your looking at moving if something doesn't change? It makes me so mad that people think they have any right to feed or even touch someone else's horses!

If you know who it is then definately have words - especially now you know your mare is in foal. Tell this person that the vet has devised a special diet for her and she has to stick to it otherwise she and the foal could become ill - scare this person into stopping feeding your horse.

I can't believe or understand why someone would be doing this. Do you know why this person is feeding your horse extras?

Like someone else said, perhaps send your mare away to foal and in the meantime look for another yard.

THIS ^^^^
is a fab idea

To be honest if she is about due now I would try to avoid moving her if possible primarily because of the stress involved, however, I do agree that something needs to be said. Have you taken the notice down? (not sure how long ago your first post was!) if so I'd put it back up and just politely mention it to everyone again - maybe under the guise of "I know we've already been through this but just to remind everyone not to feed her with the foal being due I need to know exactly what she's getting" type of comment. TBH I'd be quite concerned if my yard owner didn't know who I was some days! So once foalie is old enough then I would definitely be looking to move yards but until then I'd probably just try and limit the amount of interference the other livery as much as possible for both your mare & your own sake - foaling time is stressful enough! (and as an aside good luck with the little one!)

I think you need to man up and speak directly to the offender. If that doesn't work, then I'd put a real camera, never mind a fake one, in her box. I'd also involve the YO in a formal meeting with this idiot and get him on side before you go to the meeting. God, I'd be unable to speak with anger!

Yup, agree that short-term, i.e. for now, the dummy camera is a brill idea. But I think, long term, you will have not only the welfare of your mare but also the foal to consider, plus your own sanity! - and foals have a habit of growing into sassy youngsters :) so I would be inclined to look for somewhere else when she's foaled TBH.

I may have got this all wrong (and I do understand about interfering people on livery yards) but .... if you didnt KNOW your mare was in foal, are you sure this person isnt actually more experienced and is correct in the assumption that your mare does need more haylage/feed? Just looking at the other angle. I cannot believe a) you wouldnt be aware your mare was in foal and b) with the cost of haylage/hard feed I cannot believe that someone would use their own expensive feeds unless they felt they really had to for the benefit of a horse!

It's not fair on the mare to move her whilst pregnant. It'll also be very stressful to move her once the foal has been born.

You need to confront this person. It's not on. Imagine how much worse it will be if they were feeding the newborn foal too. If they have a concern about the amount of feed you give then they should man up and tell you.

Hope you manage to sort it out :)

OP bought the mare and found out she was pregnant afterwards. Looking at pics of the mare she looks in great condition, and too much food could certainly cause problems at this stage.

OK apologies then. Another notice and maybe the dummy camera then! Best of luck resolving it. Plenty of people on here to help when foalie is imminent!

The sign is still up, i have told the lady Twice to her face she needs to stop feeding her and she just walks off  or says i like fat horses!!

And as for not knowing she was pregnant, i bought her in a Very sorry state, the vet did see her and we all thought she was putting on weight nicely, it was me who questioned whether she was in foal, the said lady was adamant she wasn't (and even now its confirmed and my mare has bagged up she still says she isn't in foal)
As for feeding her own haylage we get it free. This lady gives her own 13.2 THREE large haylage nets a night and a FULL bucket of feed a night and no, he doesnt get exercised, needless to say im very suprised he is still alive.

Thanks for the camera suggestion, dads just on ebay ordering it now :D

I can't believe the wagon is still doing it. Is it possible to get the vet or any vet to give her a verbal bollixing?

Record everything and take the interfering weirdo to small claims if the mare gets into difficultly due to having too much of the wrong food chucked at her.

Get the likes of WHW onto her.

Dont worry about it :p im twenty (very immature)

My dad comes up when he can but she comes at very odd times, i work full time but ive just woke my boss and booked tomorrow off so i am staying at the yard all day to catch her!!!

The vet did say if i start feeding her too much whilst we do no no who the stallion is baby could grow too big for her and she knows this, i drop it in everytime she says hello...

But it's not her horse! You need to point that out VERY clearly to her, she is NOT to interfere in matters that don't concern her.

It doesn't stress or do any harm to a mare close to foaling to move them. At the TB stud I worked in we would have mares arriving with only days to go to foaling - they come to no harm, and are all foaled outside.

However it is ideal to move ASAP as it takes a while for the mare to build up antibodies to the new grazing. These help protect her foal via colostrum.

If you have never foaled a mare before it is really better to have her where there are experienced people - foals are born really fast so you don't get much time if things go wrong.

Does the yard you are in have facilities suitable for a foal - if not then definately move.

As far as the person feeding your horse - confront them, ask them why they feel your horse needs more food than you are giving - they may have a valid point. If they don't then tell them that you do not want your horse fed without your knowledge.

I would go stark raving BALLISTIC !!! I would tell this person in no uncertain terms that you are going to inform the Police, the YO, and the RSPCA. Then just tell the YO of course.. I would install a fake camera, and tell noone it ain't real. I would also tell the YO that THEY will be responsible for any vet bills if they do not sort out this situation.

I would look to move once the foal is weaned. God some bloody people !!!

Just a query. You were limiting yor pny because you thought she was fat, right? Now you know she is pregnant so isn't that why she is fat? Maybe she does acually need the extra? Within reason of course.

I like this-make a detailed log of every event. Threaten to sue her and get seriously angry with her, shout and scream and act threatening! Where the heck is the YO on this? Would it help to get your parents up? God knows what she'll try to feed once the foal is born!

Thanks for your advice guys it really is appreciated..

my mare was a bit of a rescue and she is still very nervous of most people other than me (although i think she fancies my Vet) ;) so im not sure putting her on a stud yard would be a good idea

I have a notice on her door also with about 5 different people that need to be called if she starts to foal (Vet, experienced stud friend etc) and she does have a big stables and when it comes her own little paddock

Every issue on our yard comes back to her WHY CANT SHE DIE!! ok sorry thats mean maybe just stub her toe and pack in horses:p

This woman sounds like a FREAK! I cannot stand people who think they know anything and cant believe this woman would be so interfereing! Good on you for seeming so far to keep your temper, i would go full on mental at her!!!

Best of luck with your imminent baby :D

Oh sorry i forgot to mention we are on a DIY yard, our yard owner is VERY old and although he tries his best he is getting on abit, we did have a yard manager but one day her and her horse dissapeared and we haven't had one since..

I would type up a very official letter and staple it to her door stating IN WRITING that she is to stop feeding your horse forthwith or a copy of this letter and the video camera evidence will be going to the police and the RSPCA.

People shouldnt feed others horses. My sharer doesnt even feed mines if there are no feeds out or haynets there (which if they are due are always there lol ;))

Jess, can you stay down the yard at night?

If not, can you put one of those grill top stable doors up and lock it? leaving a key that vet/experienced friends can get to (I know, it's dangerous - but so is dystocia to mare AND foal!)

TBH, I would move and move sooner rather than later. Unfortunately I found myself in a very similar position AFTER Dorey foaled (dorey fed doughnuts, rotweillers in the stable with a day old foal... ) and we couldn't move them until the foal was insurable. Thats 30 days of me trying my best not to kill the baggage!!!!!

If all else fails, I would report severely obese pony you think has untreated laminitus and who had trouble breathing in the field the other day to all manner of equestrian charities... perhaps having the RSPCA, ILPH, BHS, Blue Cross and Joe Bloggs Equestrian Charity telling her she's a wagon will distract her from your mare and foal!!!!

Other than that, a 12. bore might solve any more problems you have with her...
