Angry villager

Why don't you go round one day normal clothes and explain to her you are afraid of having an accident going the other way and you are sorry you have disturbed her but would like to carry on hacking that way.

You probably scared her by being there and she jumped on the defensive, I do it all the time.

It just occurred to me you should print off this whole post and put it through her letterbox!! This many people can't be wrong!!! Might make her realise how unreasonable she has been. :@)

Oh H_B!!! How hilarious that would be! If only I had the nerve!
Feel much brighter about situation today. I think because I've an action plan. Once a month in our village a police caravan parks in the centre for a couple of hours to make themselves available to the community. A sort of drop in service I suppose. I've decided to wander in and have a casual chat. Sort of let on I very occasionally nip thro the one-way now Main St has become so dangerous but I'm never quite sure that I should be doing this and just wondered if it was OK once in a while if I chose quiet times. Shan't mention the confrontation so it's far more of just a general enquiry.
Meanwhile, I'm roping hubby into helping further traffic proof young cob with aid of sit and ride mower with a variety of scarey things attached. We'll set up as many "traffic scenarios" as poss. ie me riding past moving mower from in front/ behind etc. plus the same with kind neighbour with old tractor, eg stopping level with us, digger up, down etc. Then... when clocks change at end of March I'm going to ride my circuit via Main St in the evenings when far fewer lorries are about and take things from there. Hopefully huge vehicles won't seem so intimidating by next autumn when clocks change again. Also, lighter nights approaching will mean hubby can trailer me out with horses and I can hack back through the one-way flow which is what I trialled today as husband at home. Thanks so much again for support everyone. What a great bunch you all are.x

Can you ride your horse to the drop in center, that would show them what a nice beast he is ect, thats what I would do, mentioning a horse will probably conjure up visions of
Thelwell cartoons otherwise.

From what I can remember from my training (police officer) I dont believe a horse and rider is classed as a vehicle, also the highway code in some parts is advisary such as the word 'should' which has been mentioned by others

Also it is illegal to reverse from a minor road into a major road, i dont think driveways are classed as roads..sorry

I'd go up and down the street to annoy her - excercising my RIGHT to use and public RIGHT of way!!

It is not illegal to ride a horse the wrong way down a one way street or through red traffic lights. However it is probaly not safe or advisable to do so.

The lady was probably guilty of 'driving without due care and attention' when she reversed out of her driveway.

If the lady does this again then go to your local police station and report her. Get an incident number from them to ensure that it is logged in to their system.

My advice would be to contact your local BHS accesss/road safety officer and ask them to contact the local highways department and see if it is possible to provide a track for horse riders/cyclists to ride safely along this route to your network of bridleways.

If you p.m. me with details of your nearest town and the county you are in I will provide youy with their contact details.
