All I sent were two photo's, one of Blue and one of Chad. No questions, no names, nothing else at all.
Here is what I recieved:
The first thing that I get about the grey is baby so he must be your baby, he knows it, is happy about it too. He is quite a calm boy, with a great personality but can be a little shy at times, then I got the words so would you be after what he has been through, so it seems he has had a bad time in the past. I feel that you have saved him and that you know him the first part being self explanatory the knowing him meaning that you have met ponies like him before and knew that you would be right for him.
(Blue is obviously a baby from the photo as he is just starting to turn from black. I didn't save him, he was sold from a loving home who bought him at 6 months old)
I do get him being a little quiet at times almost like a child that plays on his own in the corner, I dont feel worried about this but I am aware that he isnt always an exuberant youngster, sometimes he is a little quiet and needs to go over there on his own, chomp at the grass and then he will feel better. There doesnt seem to be any physical issues for him now, but more emotionally. I get the feeling of him being taken away from his Mum and that feels too early Louise, like it was traumatic for him does that all make sense?
(He does take himself away from the others sometimes, but don't they all do that? I know my three all do. I don't think he was taken from his mum too early but it could have been traumatic if he was rounded up off the Fells and taken straight to the sales I guess)
I feel that when it is quiet in the field when you are out and about he is there, he will follow you like a dog from her to there and back again, he is always quiet and a few steps behind, very gently sniffing and looking at what you do, when there is a lot of people around, he would be the other way over there having a look and wanting to join in but not being able to yet!
(He does follow me about like a dog but he isn't shy at all and comes to see new people even if there are a few of them.)
I feel that he will have a fantastic future and that you intend to keep him, he is going to make a fun boy for your family in the future, and will be a pony for life in that he will bond with everyone and never want to be sold (I hope that is OK as I know that is a lot of responsibility!)
(He was meant to be a pony for life, but then all mine are)
When I asked what happened to you he answered I was thrown away, almost like he was unwanted, but he doesnt feel like that now Louise!!! Definitely not, he is happy out in the field with the others, keeps himself to himself, and is coming out of his shell and improving with people all the time. I feel that in a year or so you wouldnt know that he hadnt had a good start, but he needs firm but very quiet handling to get his confidence up. He has been shown a lot since you had him that you want him to get used to and be happy with and I feel that on the whole he has passed with flying colours and will be a laid back boy when he is older and a sort of plodder, not slow but sure footed and capable and strong.
(Hmmm, 'I was thrown away'!!! What a load of utter tosh! Blue is also not backward in coming forward, never has been, and loves people. He does need firm but quiet handling, but again, most horses do - thats how I get the best out of my three. He has been shown a lot and is quick on the uptake)
He will very much trust only a few people because of his past and chooses those people that make him feel safe, hence not liking lots of people around, he is nice and gentle to handle apart from a few panics he takes a lot in his stride.
(As far as I am aware he hasn't had a bad past! He is good to handle and never panics, even when I fell under his legs on the ice in winter!)
I feel that you are still working to settle him Louise and that he is happy to be with you, sees that you will look after him and care for him and is very happy with that. He knows he has more learning to do when you and he are ready and will be a great lad in the long term and very attached to your family.
(So, not overly impressed with this one. Most of the comments could be generic comments about a youngster who is still a little timid and unsure of things. However, Blue is the opposite! Not a good reading)
Moving on to the other pony, well they are chalk and cheese arent they? I feel that the coloured horse is a strong willed lass and is known for being in charge she thinks she is in charge of everything although I feel that isnt exactly true. She definitely has a mind of her own, and isnt afraid to use it. Like a lot of her type she is strong, surefooted and confident but if she doesnt like something, then bye bye, she is off! I feel that has improved a lot but to begin with you wondered if you would ever get anywhere with her as she is so strong willed and likes to decide for herself whether she is going to do something. However over time you have found the right way to work with her and she is a lot more chilled out. She will always take control if something happens, she feels like a lead mare, she will do it and think afterwards and sometimes you have had a big battle of wills with her saying it is my way and her saying oh no, its mine, she has decided that you CAN tell her what to do now and seems to trust that you will choose the right thing. She is begrudgingly happy to follow you as boss, but the minute your back is turned, she is boss again!
(Firstly, Chad is a gelding. He is the biggest wimp going, scared of his own shadow and likes hiding behind me at every opportunity! He will most definately never take control and although he can be a bit nappy, a growl will get him going again)
I do feel that the has had back issues in the past, almost as if it was due to an ill fitting saddle, because she is a wide or odd shape but that would have been a long time ago and you have settled her now and had the ideas of what she needs in the future too. I feel that you have lots of plans for her in the future and are looking forward to getting her out and about more this year, she will enjoy this as she is a horse that likes work, she would be very bored just eating, so needs things to tax her mind so that she relaxes more. She can do anything in that if you show her the right way, she will always remember it, she is very bright and just sharper than you thought she might be, although I dont feel that is a problem, more that you have just tweaked what you were going to do with her to suit her personality!
(Not sure about back problems as his last couple of saddles were specially made for him. I laughed at the comment about 'her' liking to work! Chad is the laziest horse on the planet! I also question the comment about 'her' being very bright. I have seen no evidence of this from Chad at all, infact he has ably demonstated his dimness on many an occasion!)
When I ask if she is happy, it is yes, of course believe me you would know if she wasnt she would stamp her feet and tell you, she has had a painful back but that is all over now. If I ask what would she want to say to you it would be thanks, when I ask what for caring is her answer in that you have taken the time to look at her personality and enjoy her for who she is! She appreciates that time because you can work well together now.
(We do work well together now we have ironed out a few problems that were caused by Chads bad past - which wasn't mentioned at all in the reading. Neither was the broken jaw/damaged teeth mentioned which were sorted out last year.)
She will always want to go with her idea first and you will always have to tell her, err, no but she is a good girl and will be a great horse for the future too. She does feel loved and well cared for.
(He is a bit nappy and will dig his heels in occasionally but is generally complient and does as I ask)
Louise you have two very different horses but they both trust you implicitly and that means you have take time to know them as individuals. They are both very happy with you and have no problems.
At the end I feel that I might have got them the wrong way around, and the first one might be the girl, but as usual I will leave what I put rather then change it it happens sometimes!
I was just going to finish and the coloured pony showed that she has had hoof issues in the past, especially with her back feet, but they feel strong now. She just wanted to show me! As if look what I had to put up with!!
(Know of Chads past and as far as I am aware he has never had foot problems. As mentioned, the only major problem has been his jaw and teeth)
So, my timid youngster is actually a bolshy, confident lad and my 'in charge mare' is actually the biggest wimp going who is a gelding and most definately the bottom of the herd!
Not impressed
