Ok heres mine, Im just posting it as we said we would, theres some things here I think are spot on some not so, but an enjoyable experience. Still sceptical personally but dont regret it for the price.
I gave no information at all, and no question
this is the pic i sent
Hi Helen
Firstly I see what cheeky boy he is, he is always interested
in what you are doing, where you are going with that and
can he help you! He would like to help you a lot if you get
my meaning, he has his nose into everything, but if you
move too quick he will jump. He is a great easy going horse
on the ground interested in everything, happy and mostly
chilled out if a little stubborn at times. He definitely knows
how he wants to have his routine and likes to keep to it. He
is quite bossy as well, not so much with you, but still, he
would remind you if you forgot to do anything for him by a
nudge or a shove! He has a great character.
Spot on with him on this, you can probably tell his cheekyness from the pic I sent but she got the fact that he is into everything, he will pick up tools, help me build fences and anything he possibly can do get in the way, or help!
When ridden he is a different kettle of fish sometimes if
you want a nice chilled out lazy walk he is your boy, he will
take you safely everywhere at a slow and lovely walk, and
adding in a nice bit of trot. However if there are lots of
hyper horses around, he is off, he is definitely a race horse
or thats what he thinks (by which I dont see him as an ex
racer, but more a horse that likes instinctively to race).
When he is excitable he is strong and difficult to keep hold
of and just wants to be off and will dance and skip around
till you give him the go signal. If others are getting
flustered around him even at walk and trot, he would be the
same, let me go forward! He will try and take your hands
and just fly off quickly not bolt just fly forwards as
quickly as possible.
If you were out with people racing at a gallop he would
keep going to the end, and would hate to lose!
again cant argue with this, he will walk at snails pace forever but almost say well your fault you want to do more so you will! interesting on the trot, he would walk canter when we first got him but hes much better with walk trot transition now
He can also be strong when schooling him, again he
sometimes has those days where he has a mind of his own
and to be honest not much would be achieved, he is mostly
brilliant with nice paces and concentrates well, but on those
other dates I can see him dancing sideways doing quite a
nice shoulder in, but naturally because he is excitable, not
because he has been asked to!
best to give up on these days, he deffinately has days, I guess like most horses however his are very obvious
He can be strong and excitable but I feel that you have the
ability to keep him listening, even if sometimes it is through
your own inner strength. I feel that when you first had him
there would be some major battles of mental strength
where he told you I am going to do that and you would
come back at him saying oh no you dont not til I tell you
to! Not so sure on this, there were a few issues like getting him into a stable and odd things but mostly he was well behaved, could be the horsebox thing here. Nothing mentioned about him being nervous of boxes or confined spaces which I was hoping for
I feel that he is very much loved and very loveable most of
the time, you know him so well Helen that there isnt much
he can do now that you wont have seen before, it is just
that he is strong physically and mentally and just
occasionally there will always be those battles where he
thinks he knows best, however again I want to reiterate that
they are far less frequent than they were. I asked if they
were going to ever go away, but no, this is how he is and
about the best he will be, so I guess like most horses
unpredictable, but for him his unpredictability is his
strength of body and character. When he decides to go
there would be a lot of sideways movements to stop him if
that makes sense? great! lol although at 15 he will be set in his ways, and if hes in a mood all ways are better than forwards
I feel that you are very much happy with that, you can take
the occasional strong mood, much more than at the
beginning where it would be most days, it will now be
maybe once every fortnight. The rest of the time he would
go well. pretty much, hes settled more now with me and much more relaxed
I can see his movement is wonderful and free if that makes
sense, he has good muscle and a nice forward going
movement. He is very free in his shoulders in particular
which means he is fit and happy and well. I feel in the past
you did have one saddle that he seemed not to like
because when I said was he free along his back, he shouted
the word saddle almost giving me the feeling that there
was one in the past he hated, it might have even technically
have fitted him Helen, but he still didnt go well in it. He
keeps showing me black, so I feel it was a black saddle.
interesting, most people have black saddles but I only ever had one where he was really reluctant to go forward in it, funnily the rest have all been brown
He is other than that quite free along his back and that is
only a memory of something he didnt like (again showing
his strength of character to dislike a saddle!) no that he has
any pain.
I also feel that you have to ride him in a lighter bit than you
would always like because if he had a really strong bit in, he
would fight that too, he would be better in a lighter bit,
otherwise he would set up a fight straight away, before you
had given him any instructions. yep deffinately here hes only happy in a snaffle, hates anything stronger, think he knows i have 0 breaks
Again he is pretty good at
telling you what he likes and what he doesnt, he uses his
body to convey this to you in no uncertain terms.
Again sometimes there doesnt really seem to be any reason why
he doesnt like things, but he doesnt and that is that, you
have learnt that you dont bother to keep on going with
things, you just try quietly and if he doesnt like that, stop
using it! He is sort of his own boss, or that is what he feels,
however he doesnt notice that you take whatever it was
away when he dislikes it but that you replace it with
something similar so that you get your way too!
I see that you have a great relationship Helen, you know
him very well, so there is nothing that I can tell you
probably that you dont already know, but hopefully it is
nice to have it all backed up!
When I asked him if he was happy, yes he is, he would like a
bit more of this and to move the fence and so on (eg he
would like to try and boss you about a bit to give him more
field) but he is happy with his very good life. He will always
be a horse that challenges your decisions, but you are strong
enough to hold out for what you want and try and enforce
that quietly. If he was with a panicky and less experienced
nightmare, it would be straight back home every time! not sure about this last bit, assume she means rider, Im surprised as I consider myself nervous if he plays up and he has won on the odd occasion so not quite on the ball there.
Well done you have sussed him out well Helen!
I did a final scan of the photo and feel that he has had a
problem in the past with his near hind, above the foot and
below the hock, I cant get a picture of what it was because
it has gone, but that has cropped up and been dealt with.
glad she bought this up, weve had a possible issue here but never anything confirmed by my vet, it was flexion fail i think on a past vetting.
When he is in a great and non fighting for his head mood he
is the best horse ever and you put up with the fighting
because of this!
: so all in all a good assesment of him, I partly did it because I felt with all the issues we had I wasnt sure if wed sorted them, didnt pick up on his foreleg tendon injury.
not sure Im converted yet but enjoyable experience
