Has anyone heard of or used Animal friends pet insurance, I have just got a quote which seems incredably cheep about a third of my renewal from direct line, £177 a year for £20000 vet fees, lifetime cover. I know the old saying if it seems to good to be true it probably is, i got this quote on compare the market.com

I got a quote from them recently and, like you say, it seemed incredibly cheap. Most of the other companies seems to quote along very similar lines. On that basis, I decided it was too good to be true and went with someone else. I'd be very interested to hear peoples experiences with this company.

How long does the insurance cover a condition?

12 months (like horse insurance)
Up until a certain cost - the 2k or
does the pot of 2k renew every year?

That's basically the different levels of cover available for small animals. That's why the price varies so much.

Then you have to decide your attitude to risk or whether you can afford a big bill if you only have the basic or middle level of cover and either your insurance 'runs out' because you have spent more than the sum insured or the year is over.

AFAIK Direct Line is one of the companies that offers life time insurance so at the moment you probably have 'gold standard' cover.

I looked at Animal Friends a while back and I had never heard of their underwriter so I was a bit wary...but that is a personal quirk of mine :o

My horse is insured with them. They paid out really quickly when she had a 'colic like' bout but have now excluded her whole digestive system which I'm contesting.
